Re: Audio ducking not supported

Hi,

thanks for the idea.

I've managed to fix the problem.

For some reason, on the desktop under NVDA's shortcut properties, in the compatibility tab, NVDA was set to run with administrator privileges. Unchecking this, which is the default, restored audio ducking support.

I'm not entirely sure however why this same property didn't cause issues in 2021.1 but does in later versions, however replying in case someone else encounters this weird situation.

If that doesn't do it, I'd try completely uninstalling NVDA and reinstalling.  I've got NVDA 2021.3 (right now 2021.3.1 is downloading) and NVDA + SHIFT + D cycles through the three ducking states without issue.

If I remember correctly, the link is called “more info.” Not obvious, but that is what you will click to expand that dialogue. I have to do this for most of my flight simulation add ons I download and install, so now I’m on auto pilot. Pun very much intended.

Then it's likely something that's changed/been added to Windows Security definitions under Windows 11.

You can override blocks and whitelist under Windows Security.  It's been ages since I've had something blocked, but in the message that pops up there used to be a link that had click-through text that didn't make it particularly obvious that the next thing you'd get was an option to allow anyway, or start that process, so I'd suggest trying to download again and taking very careful notice about what your options may be for continuing on in the initial message saying it's blocked.

I am still on Windows 10, Version 21H2, so cannot advise further since I cannot replicate the issue.

No can't reproduce here. Windows 10 21H1 (x64) build 19043.1415 and nvda 21.2.x. I just tried it as I was reading this message. I have ducking turned off btw however I was able to cycle through all of the choices.

Subject: [nvda] Audio ducking not supported

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone encountered the following issue:

Under Windows 10, 21 H 2 in this case, NVDA obviously installed, NVDA reports "Audio ducking not supported" when trying to use NVDA shift D to cycle between the available audio ducking modes.

I am using NVDA 2021.3.1, and I have tried several other versions as well.

With NVDA 2021.3 or 2021.2 audio ducking does not work for me either, but I can use it just fine with NVDA 2021.1.

I suspect something broke on my system or there was a certain change I am not aware of, since I use audio ducking almost daily and it definitely was not broken for two versions without me noticing, thus posting here to see if someone has any clues rather than creating a GitHub issue.

Thanks for any help.

it pretty much must be whatever security suite you're using.  Windows
Security doesn't block it, but I can imagine that certain security

It really is a security violation to have password characters echoed.
You should be able to override the block, but not knowing what security
suite you're using, and since I use Windows Security exclusively, I
cannot tell you how.

Hello,  Have you tried the Telugu voice from Hear 2 Read, It has a SAPI-5 interface, and we have been giving guidance to the team on building an NVDA add-on.

I would be interested to hear your opinion of the quality. I am sure it is better than E-speak.

Office 365 Outlook and Browser Nav

William

Hello,

According to manual of BrowserNav,

• 0 or Shift+0: Jump to next or previous tree view.

On the web version of the Office365 Outlook, there is a tree view that user can press up or down arrow to shift current folder.

But pressing 0, it said there is no treeview, why does that happen?

I always have to tap many times in order to put the focus onto the treeview.

Any advice is welcome.

Regards,

William

I listened to part of the demonstration of the add-on and it is a very good presentation, as usual.  I’ve seen a lot of discussion of the add-on on the list and it is very interesting to see its features and abilities demonstrated.  I didn’t realize it could do some things you demonstrated.

Good Day Everyone! Here is a new video that I just posted. I did a review of the NEW Now NVDA Advanced OCR Add On that I saw posted in the group. Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist: goodbye for now, version 22.01 released #addonrelease

Hello NVDA users,

Happy new year to the NVDA community! Even as we move to 2022, please don’t forget that we are still living through a once in a century pandemic. Please wear masks in public, wash hands, get vaccinated if you can and are able, and follow guidance from local public health officials.

It is with heavy heart that I announce the release of version 22.01 and the end of maintenance for the following add-ons for now (manual download):

For now these are manual updates; I will update this thread once Add-on Updater begins offering these updates to you. Also, a good news: Noelia Martinez, author and maintainer of Read Feeds, Place Markers and other add-ons you know and love, have agreed to maintain Control Usage Assistant.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • There may or may not be a NVDA 2022.1 compatibility update for add-ons that are not picked up by authors in the community – it is likely that I will release updates shortly after NVDA 2022.1 beta 1 is released (it is up to Noelia if she wants to release Control Usage Assistant compatibility update, and I expect she will).
  • It is likely that version 22.01 of these add-ons will be one of the last releases to support Windows 7 and 8 (Windows 8.1 is supported by Microsoft until January 2023).
  • Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, and GoldWave are purely my creations, whereas Resource Monitor and StationPlaylist had maintainers before I took over their maintenance.

In some ways, publishing and maintaining NVDA add-ons became one of the reasons for continued community contributions for me. More than founding NVDACon, producing audio tutorials, leading courses on add-on development, being a moderator of this very forum at one point, and contributing features to NVDA screen reader, writing add-ons became the best way I felt I can contribute my skill as a programmer and practice computer science beyond the classroom. Although I’m letting go of most add-ons to focus on graduate school (more so now that I am also a graduate teaching associate), I know that these add-ons will forever be a part of me. To users of Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, and StationPlaylist, use these add-ons to make a difference not only for yourselves, but also for others – not only the NVDA community, but folks outside of it, too.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who have provided all kinds of feedback about these add-ons – bug reports, feature suggestions, pull requests, code advice, and countless others. I know that these add-ons are in the hands of the community who can improve them as time goes on. I hope these add-ons (specifically, source code) can become a handy reference for authors, both new and veterans. As I noted above, if no-one is maintaining these add-ons by the time NVDA 2022.1 beta 1 is released, I will release compatibility updates. But for now (to make it official):

I, Joseph Lee, hereby declare end of maintenance for the following add-ons as of 00:00 UTC on January 1, 2022: Control Usage Assistant (to be maintained by Noelia Martinez from now on), Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist, with basic provisions in place to declare support for upcoming NVDA 2022.1 changes.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph

Dear Sajid Sir,
Has your problem been solved? If no, do the following:
1. Select eSpeak as the TTS engine by pressing insert+ctrl+s.
2. Now, press ctrl+insert+v for NVDA settings and press tab a couple
of times and select Telugu voice from the combo box and press enter.
3. You can also use other TTS engines if you had already installed
them. For instance, Hear2Read, Geeta.
Regards.

Add-on 22.01 release part 2: CLock 22.01, end of maintenance from Joseph Lee #addonrelease

Hi all,

Second part of add-on release announcements:

Clock add-on 22.01 is now available. No changes to the user interface and documentation from version 21.11 – today’s release is a localization update:

https://github.com/hkatic/clock/releases/download/v22.01/clock-22.01.nvda-addon

Note that a dialog about configuration format may show up while installing the add-on. If this happens, select OK, finish installing the add-on, restart NVDA, then reconfigure date and time announcement format from Clock settings panel.

As the subject line indicates, this is the final version of Clock add-on under my maintenance. Earlier in 2021 I asked maintainers of Clock add-on if I can modernize the add-on, and maintainers said yes. Version 22.01 is the culmination of this work – Clock add-on has seen vast improvements, including localization updates, user interface message improvements, among other things. As I hand the add-on to the community, I would like to thank everyone who have provided feedback about this add-on for several months, and a special thank you to add-on maintainers for all their work with this add-on (and with that, Joseph Lee signs out of Clock add-on maintenance).

Cheers,

Joseph

Edited

This topic will be locked after this post, but it does deserve a bump, as we've just received another question about NVDA and Log4j.

NVAccess has explicitly confirmed that NVDA is not vulnerable to Log4j, and that notice is posted here: https://www.nvaccess.org/corporate-government/

The notice, near the top of the page, and in italics, reads:  Note: We have had several questions regarding the Apache Log4j2 vulnerability, which is in the news currently. We can confirm that neither NVDA itself, nor the surrounding NV Access architecture (our website, servers, etc) are vulnerable or affected by this issue.

This is the definitive statement on NVDA and the fact that it is not vulnerable to Log4j.
