Re: NVDA Not Talking
Huh? Mine came up talking, I did not need narrator to set it up once I ran the installer. I had one core for my synth upon installing nvda.

Steven, you could also try fire up something like narrator to see what is showing up when you then activate NVDA menu, and, there, maybe check what synthesizer is selected - NVDA + ctrl + S should bring up synthesizer dialogue, where you could try selecting another one, and, where you can also check selected audio output device?
Besides that, try hitting NVDA + ctrl + R to reset preferences to factory defaults?

Re: NVDA Not Talking

Hi
Sounds like you might not have nvda start when windows does after logging in to windows.
If that is the case use the alt key + ctrl key + the letter N. If you then hear a musical sound then it starts talking you will need to check under settings start nvda when windows starts or some thing like that under the general settings in nvda.
The other option thaht comes to mind is the synth you are using.
sorta makes it hard with no speech. If you know nvda is running but not talking use the ctrl key + nvda key + the letter S to bring up the synthesizer settings it might be set to no sppech? or a buggy synth.
If this is the case wile the synth settings is open use the letter E to get you up to E speak or W to get you to windows one core voices. If it speak correctly then tab down to the apply or ok button.
Hopefully that should do the trick.

That is strange. Do you have NVDA run as your primairy screen reader? You might want to check NVDA’S settings. You must have run a muck when you installed it.

Hi friends,
I Have installed the latest NVDA on my laptop. When I start up, there is speech at the logon screen but after logging on, there is nothing at all, no speech. During the installation, there was no speech either which seems quite odd. If I load up JAWS then I can use the NVDA+N and it would appear that NVDA is running. I Use NVDA+Q and JAWS will read the NVDA quit screen but again, there is no speech from NVDA itself. When I type, there is a high pitched sound for some reason until I unload NVDA. I Tried uninstalling NVDA and re-installing but the same thing seems to have happened afterwards. Does anyone have any ideas please?

will be speech once the computer has started. Both options need to be checked in 'Preferences > Settings > General'. Specifically: "Start NVDA after I sign in" needs to be checked.

Is then sounds like an electron issue. Is there a work around for that? Teams is built off of the electron platform which is why I ask.

Please help! I can't find the button to share my screen during Zoom meetings! I had no trouble doing this in the last two weeks, although I don’t recall the exact date when I last shared my screen.
I'm running the latest zoom under Windows 10 with NVDA. I have a Pro account, and I am the host of the meeting.
Before, I would simply press ALT+S and then specify what I wanted to share. But pressing ALT+S seems to do nothing now, and tabbing through the meeting controls does not take me to a Share Screen button.
I can't seem to find anything in my local settings or the meeting scheduling options that would affect screen sharing either. I'm stumped, and I am giving an important presentation in two days time to sighted people, demonstrating how I navigate a Website using a screenreader.
Any help gratefully received.
Chris P.S. I’ve also checked in Settings in both the Hotkeys and Accessibility categories, and nothing seems amiss there either.

Re: NVDA announcing Capital letters
Gene
I don't know how much you might want to do to pursue the problem further. One option, which will cost money, is to get the SAPI Vocalizer voices, You may want to try the program to see if you have the same problem.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
You can find it on this page: https://www.atguys.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=60_20 There are the methods to try to correct the problem Brian discussed and then there is this possible solution that will cost you money. But I'm making you aware of the option, if you aren't. And you may want to test for the problem using the SAPI demo. Gene

Same screen where you download more voices. Nothing in the settings here fixes the issue of saying capital.

There is a way to open settings for the add-on itself but I don't
know how you do it. I have a guess which I will present. To
explain why this is my guess would require explanation which isn't
relevant to the discussion. It has to do with what the expired
demo does when you try to run it. When you are using a vocalizer
voice, try opening the synthesizer dialog, control NVDA s, moving
to the Vocalizer choice, and pressing enter. Does the settings
dialog open? I have an expired demo. The only setting I can see that might possibly apply is one for raising the pitch for capital. As I recall, it is a check box. There is no say cap or say capital setting. Maybe if you turn on the raise pitch option, capital won't be spoken.

Gactory vocalizer/eloquince addon for NVDA. Both Win 10 and NVDA are the latest released versions. I have the Code Factory Vocalizer selected as my speech syn and Nathon High quality as my voice. I have the voice settings set as follows pitch change on capitals set at zero Say cap for capital letters checked beep for capital letters unchecked. This gives the result of the word cap being spoken before each uppercase letter. There is no pitch change on uppercase letters With the say cap on capitals unchecked as I had it before NVDA says the whole word capital before each uppercase letter. So having the say cap option checked and the pitch change set to zero I get less verbage on uppercase letters.

Hi Don If in the Voice Settings dialog (NVDA+Ctrl+v),you set Uppercase pitch change to 0, Say Cap unchecked and Beep before Capitals unchecked you say NVDA says "Capital" before capital letters but if you check the "say Cap" checkbox, it only says "Cap", is that correct?
Does the Code Factory addon have any adjustable properties available via the Preferences sub-menu (NVDA+n p) or in the catagories list of the Settings dialog (NVDA+n p s)? I'm asking these questions because I think it's the Code Factory addon that is responsible for it saying "Capital" and I wondered if there were any adjustable properties governing this behaviour.
Cheers Chris

I think I started this thread and here is what I have figured out. When using the code Factory vocalizer addon for NVDA if you have the voice settings to not say cap and also have the beep for caps off on my system NVDA says the word capital before each uppercase letter. To make this better in my opinion I now have my voice settings set with a pitch change on caps on zero and I have say cap on capitaleters turned on. So now on capital letters NVDA says cap before each uppercase letter and I hear no pitch change on capitals. This makes the verbage on capital letters a little better. I did also make it stop saying capital by adding each uppercase letter to the default dictionary replacing each with a lowercase letter and this resulted in only hearing a pitch change on uppercase letters but for some reason this pitch only for uppercase letters was inconsistent with some uppercase letters being typed not having a raised pitch. I removed all the enteries I made to the default dictionary.
