Does this add-on support the functionality of having NVDA use a different sound source altogether than other sounds, such as if I want to have sound coming out speakers, but NVDA in headphones? Or, does this functionality already exist? Christopher Bartlett

Hi, I expect there will be conflicts initially, but if Sound Splitter gains traction, things can change. Cheers, Joseph

Thanks both Tony and Joseph.
As I am using the original tony addon now, will this sound split conflict with tony's addon?

Hi, The reason for calling this a public preview is because the add-on is being reviewed for wider community distribution. Cheers, Joseph

New add-on (more toward an add-on feature package): Sound Splitter, split from Tony Malykh's Tony's Enhancements
#addonrelease
Hello everyone, I’m delighted to announce the immediate release of a public preview of Sound Splitter, the latest of a series of add-on releases from yours truly. Before going further, I would like to take this time to acknowledge the hard work of Tony Malykh, who gave me and the NVDA add-ons community members the big idea behind this add-on and for originally developing the code that powers this add-on. As the name implies, Sound Splitter lets you hear audio from NVDA and other programs on different audio channels. For example, with sound Splitter add-on installed and enabled, NVDA will be heard on the right audio channel while sounds from other programs will come through the left speaker. This is useful in apps such as Zoom where you need to hear what the app is saying while participating in meetings. In case you didn’t catch it, Sound Splitter was originally part of Tony’s Enhancements add-on. Earlier this week a message was sent to NVDA add-ons community, informing members that there was a conflict between Tony’s Enhancements and NVDA Extension (global plugin) in regards to audio splitting functionality. After some discussion, Tony and the community agreed that it would be best to split audio splitter functionality into its own add-on, and the result is Sound Splitter add-on. As a result, feature set is identical with that of Tony’s Enhancements with a notable difference: Sound Splitter is configuration profile aware – that is, you can configure sound splitting feature differently for different profiles, including in app-specific profiles. Sound Splitter 22.02 download link (to be queued for distribution on community add-ons website and is pending pre-distribution review from add-ons community): https://github.com/josephsl/soundSplitter/releases/download/22.02/soundSplitter-22.02.nvda-addon NVDA compatibility: 2019.3 and later IMPORTANT NOTES:
Thank you (and a special thank you to Tony for his hard work on his add-ons). P.S. Speaking of school, expect news on my other add-ons this weekend before I suspend add-on development for a while. Cheers, Joseph

I’m not running Windows 11 yet, but I noticed the latest Insider build includes new voices for Narrator. Will NVDA support these too? More details at:

Re: NVDA Not Talking
Gene
Your experience may have been that speech was off but that is definitely not typical or expected behavior. I can understand someone being skeptical, but at the same time, I think it is a good idea to check, just in case. Odd and unexpected things can happen. But if that were the typical behavior, there would be no end of complaints and questions from people who don't have speech. NVDA should talk after installation. Not to do so would make it inaccessible after installation.

I found this out just days ago. The real problem once NVDA is installed is getting into the synthesizer settings and choose one you want and pick a voice. Then there are settings which you need to set before you get to the end and press OK In actual use the setting for talking is set to none at start up until you tell it different. Good Luck. Marilyn Also, this message followed refuting my claim uh? Mine came up talking, I did not need narrator to set it up once I ran the installer. Uninstalled NVDA, re-installed but still had the issue. I Used Narrator while NVDA was running, used NVDA+CTRL+S, no speech was set and I had to change the synthesiser to ESpeak. Now working like a charm, thanks again all!

Re: Weird Editing Behaviour in Chrome and Edge?
This was already discussed a few weeks ago. I'm suffering this as well and can't wait for updates from the chromium side of things. It's a bit annoying but I can deal with it, for now.

I want to point out that I didn't think about all this in detail until the question was asked today. I might look somewhere if I thought something was more likely to be there, but if it wasn't, then I would look other places.

press enter, then search for input gestures, the link pops up on the screen for you to activate. There's all sorts of info in there, & it's a well-organized, well-thought out document, well worth consulting IMO.

Re: Input Gesture Dialog
Gene
It is often more efficient to look through the NVDA menus to find something like this. Remember that you are not dealing with settings, as would generally be defined. Settings are often preferences and that explains why settings is a submenu in preferences. You are not dealing with settings as generally defined. but you are dealing with preferences. It is a preference if you want to redefine a key. So open the `NVBA main menu, then open preferences and down arrow through what is there. You will find it.
I would imagine that it could be argued that these are settings,
but however you think of them, you will generally find such things
looking through menus and submenus.
Another example is Manage Add-ons. That is in the tools menu.
I hope this discussion saves some or many people time when
looking for things.

Input Gesture Dialog
Glenn / Lenny
Hello,
I read through a bunch of the on-line NVDA help
pages for how to get to the input gestures dialog.
There are dozens and dozens of references with
links for it, but nothing on how to access it.
I turned on the screen curtain, which is what I
want, but I want to assign a shortcut to turn it off if I need to.
I turned keyboard help and tried every key I could
imagine to see if there was already a keyboard shortcut assigned, but could not
find one.
I did not get an input gesture dialog when turning
it on.
This is in windows 10.
Thanks for suggestions.
Glenn
