I'm not singling you out because I see this done often. When reporting a problem, it is important to tell what has been done in detail. In this case, we can now properly address the problem. Before, it sounded as though you used your browser to download the file.

I haven't postponed an update but I think the following would probably work. Open help. Do so by opening the NVDA menu and typing h. Find check for updates and press enter. My guess is that NVDA will see the file, wherever it downloads it, and once again ask if you want to update now. Perhaps it will automatically start updating but either way, that is likely to solve the problem. Gene

Did you try CTRL+J, what Brian suggested?

Yes it's most likely in your default downloads folder.

Zotero
Milos Przic
Hello all,
Hope everyone is doing well.
I see that people have discussed here about Zotero
a while ago. My question is, is the version 5 accessible with NVDA? And, how
does it work at all? That is, how do you make it work in MS Word?
For anyone who might ask what this software is, as
people often do, it is a reference manager and research assistant. In other
words, if you don't do academic work, you probably don't need it.
Thanks to everyone in advance for your answers, and
best regards!

If I recall correctly, one of your computers runs many versions of the calculator when you boot and now has a problem with the time announcement command in NVDA. If this is the same computer, the disappearing file may be another manifestation of a problem that needs to be checked. Is it the same machine?

I think you presented the calculator problem on a different list but they all may be related. Gene

This problem, along with the calculator problem, may indicate, taken together, a problem with Windows or something else on the system. It might be time to have the machine looked at. Or if the machine is too old, to get a new or another one.

I don't know. There are different ways many things could be done
and this may have been something that was done just because
someone did it that way. There may not have been a question of
deciding between ways, it may just have been the way someone
designed the interface.

If it's not in your Downloads folder then it's where you instructed (whether you realized it or not) the browser to put it.
The downloads manager in every major web browser can be accessed via CTRL + J, and it will be listed at the very top of the list of downloaded items if you've not downloaded anything else (or very near the top if you have). If you activate the "Open Containing folder" button for that download File Explorer will open, to the correct directory/folder, and focus will be on the file. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Constantly insisting on “my rights” with no consideration of “my responsibilities” isn’t “freedom” — it’s adolescence.

Type in NVDA. E X and it should populate a list and you can find it in there and then arrow to the right when it’s highlighted and shoes show location

Thank you again for this tutorial. I have a question about the review modes. What is the reason for having two key combinations( NVDA + Numpad*7 and NNVDA + umpad*1) to get previous and next review modes when you can have one key combination to cycle through the available review modes? Warmly, Mani

Is this a laptop? If on the desktop, will alt+F4 bring up the shut down menu? If not, It seems that you have activated the function key mode. Press function insert F12 to see if it tells the time.

Have you followed The Most Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Suspected NVDA Issues?
You need to eliminate the possible involvement of add-ons, among other things. You do not say whether you've restarted your machine, and I do mean using the Restart power option, or any of several other preliminary diagnostic steps. You need to go through those before it can be determined whether NVDA itself has "gone wonky" or if something else may have. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Constantly insisting on “my rights” with no consideration of “my responsibilities” isn’t “freedom” — it’s adolescence.

All of a sudden, doing NVDA plus f12 tells me the volume level; not the time and date. I ran the NVDA repair program but that didn't fix it Need I reinstall NVDA?

Hi Abhijit,
It sounds like your registration has been corrupt somehow. Either that or the database which Eloquence connects to is somehow down or not functioning. Usually an e-mail to the manufacturers will correct this. On 2/25/2022 2:35 AM, Abhijit Kasbe

facing issue with eloquence for SAPI
Abhijit Kasbe <abhijitkasbe78@...>
Hello all! I am using eloquence for SAPI so , I am facing issue while playing audio games where SAPI is available. the issue is that , whenever i do select eloquence from the game i do get message "please register the product" at the same time it works with NVDA,narrator and jaws. i had raised this query to code factory but their answers did not solved the issue. another thing if you switch speech rate check box check then you dont get chance to change the speed from the NVDA setting so , is it okay to use with inline speed? or by default. best regards.

Re: NVDA Comparative tutorial with JAWS
Gene
Screen review is much more simple and easy to explain than object navigation. You are moving around the screen, the same screen that a sighted
person sees and you can move to what is on the screen.
In object review, you can move to information not shown on screen. to give one example, if you open a large document in a word processor, the entire document is one object. Using object navigation, you can move through the entire document. In screen review, you can only move through what is being displayed on the screen.
I am using desktop commands in this discussion. I don't know the laptop commands. Others may wish to give them.
To enter screen review, use the command numpad insert numpad 7. You may have to use it more than once, depending on if you are someplace where document review is active. Issue it until you hear screen review. If you are already in screen review, you will hear no next review mode. Once you are finished in review mode, don't forget to return to object navigation. The command is numpad insert numpad 1. Issue it until you hear object review. If you try to move further you will hear, no previous review mode.
The following commands are used in review mode. If there are any
others, I am not aware of them. those interested may want to check the user guide or quick
reference guide or other sources but the following commands are
either all or almost all of them.
Numpad 7. Move to and say the previous line. Numpad 8, say the current line. Numpad 9 move to and say the next line. I've shortened the descriptions of the following commands in the list because the information I've removed is redundant and applies to all of them.
Numpad 4, previous word. Numpad 5, current word, Numpad 6 next word. Numpad 1 previous character. Numpad 2 current character. Numpad 3 next character. Shift numpad 7 moves you to the top of the screen. Shift numpad 9 moves you to the end.
If you press the say current keys quickly more than once, different behaviors will occur. Pressing numpad 8 quickly twice spells the entire current line.
Pressing three times says every letter in the current line using
the phonetic words for the letterss. For example, gulf for g,
kilo for k. Numpad five when pressed twice spells the current word. Three times says the phonetic word for every letter in the word. Numpad 2 pressed twice gives the phonetic word for the current letter. three times gives the decimal or hexidecimal values.
You can move the mouse to your current position in screen
review. To do so, use the command numpad insert numpad slash. Left click the mouse with just numpad slash. Right click it with numpad star, immediately to the right of numpad slash. This is the same as opening the context menu from the keyboard.
While screen review is still used, it is not useful in a lot of applications where it used to be. Because of technical changes in Windows 10, also in Windows 11, it can't be used in many contexts where it could before. You won't be able to move.
