Re: Regarding nvda reporting colors in word

Quentin,

Here is the issue I have just created, https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/13458

Quentin Christensen 於 10/3/2022 19:14 寫道:

Hi William,

I can replicate this.  It happens in Word with UIA enabled, but not with that setting (in NVDA's advanced settings) disabled.  It also only happens when you navigate with arrows / control+arrows etc, but not when using the table navigation commands (control+alt+arrows) or tab.

Feel free to create an issue on our tracker: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/new/choose

If you do, I can also replicate using:

NVDA 2021.3.3

Windows 10 (64-bit) Version: 21H2 (2009), Build: 19044.1586

Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.14931.20118

Hello all,

I have enabled reporting font color in word, but I have came across a
strange issue.

When I move the edit cursor across table cells using left or right
arrow, although the colors of the font has not changed, nvda will still
report the color information when my cursor is moved into a new cell.

This is quite annoying, How can I eliminate it?

Thanks.

Re: Clipspeak add-on for NVDA

Thanks to Gene for the link.

Since the one he gave is a link with a time limit on it, I've created one on my Google Drive that isn't, and it will remain there until the tweaked version gets broken as far as compatibility with NVDA when a backwards-compatibility-breaking NVDA release occurs.  Credit where credit is due for the source, though.

I don’t like it either. I’ll go into focus mode when I’m good and ready, lol. I wasn’t crazy about it in Jaws either, even though arrowing popped you right back out again.

Finally, another person who believes that, because of inconsistent

behavior, and working differently if you tab or use the arrow keys, the

setting should be turned off and shouldn't be the default.

Re: Clipspeak add-on for NVDA

Sarah

Thank you again Gene.

As for the other messages I have no idea what github is as I use the NVDA adds on community website for any add ons my daughter requires.
From what I can gather it seems many people likes to use clipspeak as it is quite simple and easy to use.
Which is why my daughter likes it and her work is mainly done on laptop.

Hopefully someone can take it over and maintain it for many other people that seems to have requested for a more compatible one, many thanks to whoever did this compatible one which I'm sure my daughter is looking forward to hearing it and being able to use it again as it stopped working in 2020.

Re: Clipspeak add-on for NVDA

Hi,

In order for an add-on to appear on community add-ons website, it must go through a queue process involving pull requests to a specific GitHub repository, typically initiated by an add-on author or people who have received permission from the author to post a pull request on their behalf.

If it is the add-on I'm thinking of, then suffice to say that it may need some internal adjustments (some of them major). I believe there has been requests to register that add-on on community add-ons website for some time and we had discussions about it, specifically add-on scope as the add-on covers a lot.

As for ClipSpeak, yes, the author is one and the same (Damien). The add-ons community had a discussion about what to do with this add-on a while back with no solid conclusions. My hope is that someone would maintain that add-on and make it compatible with newer NVDA releases (I wish I could, but I'm at a point where I cannot guarantee it).

Cheers,

Joseph

Is there a newer version that is not on the official add on website that works with the latest NVDA version or is there another add on we can use that is exactly the same or does very close to it so she can do her work independently?

Re: Addon Updater.

Hi,

Regarding expanding this suggestion to dev channel, while the user story is compelling, this cannot and will not be done for reasons as I stated earlier: dev channel is meant to receive early feedback. As such, users should understand that regressions are possible in development releases, similar to the disclaimer on NVDA alpha releases. If you do encounter regressions, the best course of action is reporting them to developers. Besides, not al add-ons come with development releases.

Cheers,

Joseph

I believe its this one, based on the description.  Its called something like Global Commands and you can read the description and download it here:

No no, there was a web bookmarks feature he did use that was an add on. I don’t think those are saved upon downgrading so yes I fear they have been lost.  IF that is the  case, then, good luck in recreating them in time to take your test.

Website bookmarks are not a function of NVDA.  I'm not saying that there may not be an add-on you've used that makes it easier to get at them, somehow, but they are set and stored by the web browser(s) you use.

Since you are apparently unable to follow directions like detailing what you are doing, can you make a recording and upload it to dropbox of the issue? This might or might not be easier for you, and it might or might not help, but it is something at least.

What synthesizer are you using?  This is completely unexpected behavior.  Bang is what is spoken by default at the  function level where it is set to be spoken when you have punctuation set to all.  You should hear nothing at lower levels.   But you say you hear the actual word exclamation.

My dictionary suggestion may solve the problem and, since you have tried various suggestions without success, I don't know how likely it is that the problem will be solved in other ways.

There is another add-on that does this and a number of other things.  I don't know much of anything about it and you may now use whichever you want.  Someone else may present information about the other add-on if you want to look at the description and see if it does anything you are interested in.

I reached out to Quentin of NVDA who kindly guided me to this forum and recommended I join and ask.

I would be seeing my daughter tomorrow evening and would love to have a solution to this issue or at the very least have a recommendation of a reliable add on extension we could install from the community add ons website that does exactly the same or very close at least so she can work very independently without having to stress about it.
Being a college student, not having the cllipspeak and the ability to know if she has successfully copied or pasted a work text she needs to complete her work has been very difficult and results in taking longer to complete her work.

Dear Gene and Brian,

My apologies for the confusion in terminology. By "website bookmarks",
I meant the browser marks that can be created using Browser Nav and
can be jumped to using "j" as the single-letter navigation key. This
is unrelated to bookmarks for websites, which certainly is a web
browser facility.

Thanks.

By the way, who is the actual author for the Clipspeak Add-On, and who is currently maintaining it.

The add-on directory indicates the author is Damien Sykes-Lindley, while the community add-on page says Damien Garwood.

The last compatible version of NVDA for "the official version" of Clipspeak was 2019.3.  Knowing whose cage to rattle about whether or not it is ever to be updated by them would be helpful.
