Zoom oddities
Bob Cavanaugh
Hi all,
Well, I'm back on the list with a question after about 15 months of relatively trouble free use of NVDA. Actually I have two concerns regarding Zoom: 1. When I enter a meeting, NVDA used to say "you are in the meeting hosted by (name) with # participants." Now it says "you are in the meeting hosted by %F with %D participants." 2. I was trying to set up a meeting to recur on the third Saturday of the month, but couldn't figure out how to do it. A friend of mine runs a recurring meeting on the first Saturday of the month, and she can have the meeting dates displayed in the invitation, but when I try to set up a recurring meeting, my meetings always come up as "this is a recurring meeting, meet anytime." She is using JAWS. Does anyone know if I can access the recurring meeting function within Zoom using NVDA? Thanks, Bob

It is no surprise, that if you are running alphas, add-ons will become incompatible. Don't panic or be shocked about that. You are running software that is not ready for public use, so it is to be expected that add-ons are not ready for it. Run the latest published version (2021.3.4), if you want everything to keep working. Even when the NVDA beta comes out, add-ons will still be getting ready. In fact, they can't even start publishing new releases that support new NVDA, *until* the first beta of the year comes out. Luke

Re: Can't Upgrade While Using RDP
Christopher Duffley
If you're referring to Microsoft Remote Desktop, yes, about 99% of it or so is very accessible with NVDA! The best way to disconnect a machine that's on an NVDARemote connection, however, is to use a Disconnect RDP.bat file that I can send a link to for the Machine being controlled. This is because if you don't use this file disconnect almost every other way, the NVDARemote connection will freeze in terms of sending commands to the machine.

If you're using the NVDARemote add-on, that will be your best bet. That's how I did it on my dedicated server out of St. Louis with Server4You. That's the only way, besides RDP, that I can control my machine.

Good afternoon,

I use go to meeting on occasion and am using jaws here and am dead in the water once I join the meeting, So would guess nvda is no good either, but never tried with it. Don’t forget there is always the option to call into the meeting via phone and that would give you access to the stuff via your phone keypad.

Task Bar - Running Applications - After upgrade 2021.3.4
Russell James
Greetings, I think this happened after the previous update as well... When I upgraded to 2021.3.4 my running applications in the task bar go silent using mouse over the icons. The icons to the left are spoken but all I get when using the mouse over the running application icons is a generic "running applications" response. When I restart the problem is resolved. Russ

Re: Clipspeak Interfering with Clipboard and Other Functions
Hi, By the way, when you do release a ClipSpeak version compatible with upcoming NVDA 2022.1, please do two things: inform the add-ons list about the new maintainer, and post the repo somewhere (these days, GitHub); these two tasks are required, especially the second task (since the previous maintainer posted the source code in GitHub). Cheers, Joseph

Hi, Without going into details (because it is quite technical here), there is a line of code near the top of the file where everything from a module is imported which is considered bad practice in Python programming community. Cheers, Joseph

Re: In praise of the NAO (NVDA Advanced OCR) addon
Not an NVDA Add-On, that's for sure, but for anyone who wants to add a text layer directly to an image scanned PDF (or PDF that contains text that's somehow not accessible) and save that permanently as part of the PDF file, see my now ancient tutorial: Using Tracker Software’s PDF-Xchange Viewer to OCR Process Image Scanned PDFs
Still works like a charm, and they have free language packs for something like 20 languages in addition to the 4 that come built-in to their OCR engine as shipped. It does not, however, language switch. It's presumed that the document being OCR-ed is in one language. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Constantly insisting on “my rights” with no consideration of “my responsibilities” isn’t “freedom” — it’s adolescence.

In praise of the NAO (NVDA Advanced OCR) addon
Hi all. We got an inaccessible, 500 page PDF at work we needed to make accessible. This came from a place that should have known much better to even create inaccessible PDF's, let alone send them out. Anyways, the PDF was password protected, so we couldn't just send it to Adobe Reader and convert it to word format. So, after grabbing the latest version of NAO [nao 2022.1.2 (stable)], which was released in 2022 and now shows page number progress as the document is being scanned, I tried it out and it worked! So I just selected all the text, copied it, pasted into Word, and there we go!
So, if the person who developed this addon is here, thank you so much for this, and I've donated to show my appreciation in more than words.

And, remember that most portuguese and brazilian users, as well as other language communities, do not post in this list, or in GitHub, because they do not know english or do not know how to use GitHub...- I know there are several other-than-English language NVDA groups which I would expect for any internationally used product. But when it comes to GitHub, that's the communication mechanism. The form for either bug report or feature request issues translates in a pretty straightforward way using something like Google Translate, and the whole thing can be reversed back to English that way, too. I can't fix the fact that GitHub is the project management software used nor that the de facto project language is English. There are always issues to be worked around when different language communities interact. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Constantly insisting on “my rights” with no consideration of “my responsibilities” isn’t “freedom” — it’s adolescence.
