Re: Clipspeak add-on for NVDA

The introduction in our add-ons of a self-updating capability was due to them are not included in any repository...

Now, when requesting inclusion in the NV Access repository this feature is set to do not check, and the centralized system through add-on updater will make the work...

I think it will not harm anyone and can be usefull in situations when add-ons acceptation in NV Access repository is not working in a timelly way...

Could you indicate why you have chosen to introduce self-updating capability for this add-on (as well as for others of your add-ons)?
As a user, I prefer centralized add-on updating via add-on updater; this allows to have various windows popping up, one per add-on. As an add-on developer, I understand that the process is less flexible however.
In any case, it remains your choice. But your feedback on this topic may be of use for people working on the new add-on store project. Thanks.

Can you use object navigation to get the information you need? Consult the nvda’s quick stawrt/manual for more information and to get the key strokes for your platform.

Subject: [nvda] Addon for Waveplayer?

Hello all,

I have to use Wave player for my transcription job and find that I am unable to read the total recording length or the recording time that has elapsed. Is there an addon for NVDA which would solve this or would NVDA’s OCR work? I’m running Windows 10 with the latest stable NVDA version. I use Wave player as part of a transcription platform called DocShuttle which is accessible itself but doesn’t contain recording information. Otherwise Wave Player is pretty usable.

Thanks,

Janet

I think this is working as intended. Can you provide a use case wherein this
is not?

Looking back, I don't think I explained myself well.
What I mean is when punctuation is typed before or after the word, the word
will be spoken along with the punctuation.

Hi.

Are you talking about which typing feedback is more convenient?

When I have a Braille display under my fingers tip I keep it set at words; without Braille, I keep it at character even though I find this second very annoying.

Hi,
I am posting this here to see what others think of this idea.
I've switched to using the speak typed words enabled recently and I like the feedback I get with it.
I do have a request. Is there anyway, that NVDA can tell you when you have typed a quote with speak typed words enabled? This would be very benificial when typing quotations, so you would know it took instead of accidentally typing an apostrophe.
What do you guys think?
Chris

PLEASE CORRECT ME WHERE I'M DOING WRONG: SO HERE THE STEPS:

1 I'M OPEN MY GMAIL ACCOUNT IN BASIC            HTML VIEW.

2 I OPEN ONE OF THE EMAILS THAT I RECEIVED

3NOW TO READ THE BODY MESSAGE OF THAT EMAIL I FIND THE "SHOW ORIGINAL" PHRASE

4 NOW I PRESSED THE ADD-ON HOTKEYCTRL+SHIFT+NVDA KEY+K TO ACTUALLY CREATE THE RELEVANT BOOKMARK.

5 BUTWHEN I TRY TO LOCATE THE BOOKMARK USING THE HOTKEY NVDA+K IT SAYS BOOKMARK NOT FOUND, SO WHAT I'M DOING WRONG?

Check for updates is off by default so I doubt this will cause problems.  I don't have an opinion about whether the feature should be present.

Re: Clipspeak add-on for NVDA

Hi all,

Update: the next version of Clipspeak (compatible with upcoming NVDA 2022.1) was submitted for distribution on community add-ons website. If you have Add-on Updater installed, you will get the new version as soon as the new version shows up on community add-ons website.

Thats the advanced ocr scanner.

It runs on 2019.3 and up but currently is only able to run on 21.3 however I sent them an email to ask about the future 2022 release and there is 1 other addon author I may need to email well maybe 2 but I think most of things will probably be released in time.

That's basically exactly what NVDA will do - open the image, press NVDA+r, then read the resulting text as normal (the results will vary depending on the size, contrast, rotation and other factors, as well as how zoomed in the image is.  Press escape when done.

Add-on release updates: Windows App Essentials 22.03.2, more add-ons becoming compatible with NVDA 2022.1 #addonrelease

Hi all,

Two add-on updates:

  • NVDA 2022.1 compatibility: as of time of this writing, about 18% of add-ons registered on community add-ons website are compatible with NVDA 2022.1. Also, several add-ons are going through compatibility testing at the moment (at least via development releases), so as far as compatibility is concerned, they are compatible with testing in progress (some of these will require 2022.1 due to changes that affect them). If we add these add-ons, we will end up with 30% compatibility.
  • Windows App Essentials 22.03.2 is now available. This release fixes a double-speaking issue reported by a user who uses latest preview of Windows Terminal with NVDA 2021.3.x. This is caused by changes made to Terminal app itself, as well as NVDA 2021.3.x not including the fix needed to resolve this as people who have worked on Terminal app changes did not anticipate Microsoft releasing the app preview early. This change does not affect NVDA 2022.1 beta users as the needed change from NVDA is included with the beta release.

As always, if you have questions, comments, or concerns about add-on compatibility, feel free to reach out to individual add-on developers.

Cheers,

Joseph

Welcome to the NVDA Community Add-ons website - Application Dictionary #nvdaaddonsfeed

nvda@nvda.groups.io Integration <nvda@...>

Application Dictionary

  • Authors: Rui Fontes, Ricardo Leonarczyk, Cyrille Bougot
  • Download stable version
  • NVDA compatibility: NVDA 2019.3 and beyond

This simple add-on makes possible to create application-specific dictionaries for NVDA. To use the add-on, just go to the application for wich you want a dictionary for, and press NVDA+control+shift+d. The normal NVDA dictionary dialog will open for you to add entries valid only for the active application (the application name should appear in the dialog title). The default add-on shortcut can be changed through NVDA's input gestures dialog: under configuration node, expand the node that says "Shows the application-specific dictionary dialog".

Automatic update

This add-on includes an automatic update feature. The check for a new version will be executed everytime NVDA is loaded. If you want this, go to NVDA, Preferences, Settings and in the add-on category check the check box.

Re: 2022.3.5 Upgrade and Speaking of Taskbar Icons

Quentin Christensen

Hi Russell,

Without looking into what change you were hoping for reading icons - NVDA 2021.3.5 was a security update - it fixed a potential security hole, only.  We generally add new features to major releases (NVDA 2021.1, NVDA 2021.2, NVDA 2021.3 etc), but not minor releases (NVDA 2021.3.1, 2021.3.2, etc).  Any changes, new features, and non-critical fixes are generally included in the next major release.   In fact currently we are already in the beta period for NVDA 2022.1, so if you download the beta for that, you would notice new features and changes from 2021.3.

Again, just replying off the top of my head, I haven't looked into any taskbar reading issue - but if there is a problem, or you have an idea on how it could be improved, do first check: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues to see if it has already been reported, and if not, do please create a new issue.

Kind regards

Quentin.

And it very much is.

It really doesn't matter the wireless technology, per se, it can be either WiFi or Bluetooth, but the general procedure is "get the peripheral, whatever it may be, set up with the wireless connection to the computer, then do whatever in-program configuration (if any) is necessary to get the program connected to that device."

It is Windows that's handling the wireless communication part while your program is doing whatever it needs to do to send "the correct data" to that device.

It's quite analogous to an wireless printer.  You have to get the printer and computer on the same WiFi network, then get the computer to recognize the printer [which is the equivalent of pairing in Bluetooth], then choose that printer in the print dialog of whatever program you wish to have send to it.  For a Braille display and Bluetooth it's get both sides of he equation into discovery mode, discover and pair, do whatever voodoo you do in the screen reader to direct input and output to the Braille display.
