Hi NVDA folks that use NotePad++

I discovered that Notepad++ 8.3.3 crashes  with NVDA. I use NPPcrypt, and had to have my son decrypt the files for me. What are people doing while this incompatibility gets fixed? I would discourage people going to version 8.3.x at this time. Can one just install 8.2.x over 8.3, or would this break plugins?

This also taught me a lesson about encrypting files and being careful not to depend on that software always working.

have followed the instructions from Ron it still doesn't work, every time I try to add the city the weather adding cities closes, here are Rons instructions, someone may have to tandem with me thanks from Joseph
.
The keystroke you mention is not for adding a city. It Is for setting up a
temporary city. This assumes you have saved more than one city in your
Weather program and you want to check the  weather in another city without
changing your default city. To add a city to Weather Plus:
1.  Press NVDA + N for the NVDA menu.
2. Choose preferences.
3. Press enter on Weather plus.
4.  The default item there is set and manage your cities. Press enter on
that.
`5.  You are placed in an edit field. Type in a city name or city code .
6.  Tab once to a test button and press enter. This will search for the city
or give you multiple choices if there is more than one.
7. If you find the city, highlight it in the results list and tab to the add
city button and press enter.
8.  You can then use the tab key to set parameters for the city you have
chosen. These settings are check boxes and there are a lot of them.
9.  Don't forget to tab to and press OK to save the setting.

OH, it’s nvda? For me it’s the app itself, it freezes, then chokes, then crashes with some kind of exception. I’ll have to see if I can revert with choco.

George, can you be a bit more specific in what happens and what you do to make it happen?

Which version of NVDA are you using?

What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

What exactly happens once the problem occurs? Saying that NVDA crashes isn’t necessarily as specific as you might think.

Are you using any NVDA addons?

Does the problem occur when all addons are disabled?

Re: SayAll not auto reading in Chrome

Have you rebooted since the problem began?  If that didn't solve the problem, try the following:

Open the browse mode dialog, control NVDA key b.
Tab until you get to say all on page load or similar wording.
It is a check box.
Check it with the space bar if it is unchecked.  Then press enter.  If the check box is already checked, uncheck it, then press enter.
Then, open the browse mode dialog again, tab to the check box, check it and press enter.
See if that solves the problem.

Sometimes, if a setting in a program is lost, changing the setting, then changing it back to what it was will restore it.

Robert,

I’m not able to reproduce this issue. Using NVDA 2022.1 beta 3. Using Windows 11 version 21 H2, Build 22000.556.

Selecting text with shift-ctrl-right arrow in Notepad selects text word by word and reads the selected text as expected.

What is unexpected is that when I type several words and then press enter the line that I just typed is repeated. As an example, if I type “This is a test” pressing enter causes NVDA to read back “this is a test.”

I’m not sure if this is an issue with the beta or if it occurs with 2021.3.5.

Re: ocr software

Yeah it was called fine reader sprint 6.

You can still get fine reader and it is for the most part accessible.

So the issue is that its really not accessible with the menus and while I did get an older software package by readius, that died last year along with the company it looks like so I am back to abbyy fine reader.

So I don't use it ultra much but the big issue is the menus on there can be a bit sluggish.

Abby know of this but don't seem to be in any real hurry of fixing it even though they themselves have tested with nvda and are aware of the issue.

So if you know the menu you are going to thats fine and you can handle it well enough but switching between menus, um not so much.

The good thing is they at least update regularly enough now.

This has not been true for many years now with most name-brand scanners/multifunctions including HP, Brother, Canon, Epson, and some others.

I haven't encountered a scanner/multifunction in some time that does not include OCR functionality as part of its scanning suite.  I OCR scan all sorts of things with my Canon TS6300 all the time, as I prefer keeping electronic archives these days rather than file cabinets full of paper.
