I've found advice, on line,  telling me to go to control panel, then programmes and select MS 360 and then click on repair. I can't find the repair option, I can only find the uninstall. option.

Perhaps it is hidden from my view?

Any advice or experience please.

Re: Changing Symbol Pronunciation For Particular Language

I can think of a couple of possible options.  If you are using the same software when dealing with Spanish, which you do not use when using other languages, could you set this up in a configuration profile?  Or you could use the NVDA Add-On, Application Dictionary, similarly and perhaps with greater ease.

If you so happen to be in the USA or UK, I strongly suggest reaching out to Microsoft Windows & Office Accessibility Support (US).  Pick your contact method from any one of the options on that page.  If your preference happens to be by phone, and you're in the USA, then (800) 936-5900.  If you are in the UK, see: UK Microsoft & Windows Accessibility Support Webpage.

I have generally found the fastest way to get licensing issues resolved is by "going straight to the source" when that option exists, particularly when it exists at no cost.

And for the record, this is another example of something that has no direct tie to NVDA at all.  It's a licensing issue with Microsoft Office, pure and simple.  The exact same steps to resolution, whatever they may end up being, will be taken regardless of your screen reader of choice.

Changing Symbol Pronunciation For Particular Language

Bhavya shah

Dear all,

I am hoping to change the pronunciation of several symbols when I am
using a Spanish voice (say Microsoft Pablo in case of OneVoice,
selecting Spanish in ESpeak-NG) for concision. Is there a way to do
this for a particular language without altering the symbol's
pronunciation universally? It seems like the Punctuation/symbol
pronunciation dialog can load in a language-specific manner (it shows
up with English in its title right now), but despite choosing a
Spanish voice, focusing on Spanish text before opening the dialog, and
turning off language switching, I am unable to load it for Spanish. As
a Spanish beginner, the full, verbose reporting of common symbols is
quite distracting and I would greatly benefit from customizing them
for brevity.

I would truly appreciate any suggestions and advice on this.

Kind Regards,
Bhavya Shah

We’ve asked you this before and you have failed to provide the information. If you fail again this will not be a first attempt in learning but a failure to follow instructions, and very specific ones at that.

Quentin and William,

Step 7 describes what I experience every time when sorting a document in excel.

I am using Office 2016 in Windows 10 and latest NVDA – all latest versions.

This is a noisy and unnecessary babble of information. I always press the left alt key to silence it so that I can actually hear the options in the next drop down box.

I can also replicate this when I move away from the spreadsheet to another application and swing back again with alt+tab. This generates the full text that William describes.

The elements I hear are:

1.The Sheet title followed by the addition of "dash Excel"

2. Then "unavailable"

3.Then "Sort dialog, Sort widnow"

4. Then "Data Grid"

5. Then "Sort data Item 1 of 1"

6. Then "Order combo box, smallest to largest collapsed"

If I do not change the three boxes, "order by" "sort on" or "order", I do not get this echo as I tab from combo box to combo box.

However, as soon as I activate any one of these  combo boxes, I get the full whack of all six elements described above when I tab away from the combo box.

If I keep the alt key pressed when I press alt +tab to return to the Excel window from another application window, I hear the sheet title plus "dash Excel" but no mention of "Unavailable". However, when I let go the alt key, I then get the repetition of the Title and all six parts of the announcement.

This is an awful lot of verbiage and it has no value to me as a user.

Also, don’t forget you can change the level at which punctuation is spoken, specifically the exclamation and apostrophes.

Check out the punctuation settings in NVDA.

As I described in my message, there are 2 settings that are used to determine what punctuation you hear, so when you say “I have tried setting it”, which setting are you talking about?.  Similarly, you say “I do not want exclamation spoken when reading an e-mail”.  How are you reading the email, using say-all, line by line, word by word, character by character?

As I said, you need to give details.

Another thing to check is that you do not have any Dictionary entries associated with the punctuation symbols you are complaining about.  If there are any, delete them, the Dictionary is not the correct place for them.

Re: Excel and sort data

Cearbhall O'Meadhra

All the best,

Cearbhall

I can replicate the first part - although just to confirm, the data itself is still read, it's just that you get the extra unnecessary list box list item information as well, correct?

For the next part, step 7, I couldn't replicate that, but maybe I was doing it slightly differently.

Would you be able to write it up at https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues please?

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hello,

1. Open any excel file

2. filled the worksheet with some data with the first row as the header

3. select all existing data by ctrl +a

4. go to data tab, press sort button

5. tab to any of the dropdown menu

6. press up or down arrow, every time when I press up or down arrow, nvda
will say list box  list xxxx

7. after I have selected one of the item and press tab, nvda will repeat
the name of the current worksheet and says excel unavailable, followed
by the next item.

Would you please comment on whether this is a nvda or excel problem? Thanks.

William

Hi,

I see. I think, at minimum, we can do something about editing the user guide
to mention this fact (or at least add a text in these settings labels to

can document others requiring a restart for changes to take effect (and I
think it would be great if we can mark it as good for new developers).

Hi Group,

While I guess this add on serves the purpose for some who don't want to fiddle with editing addresses in the address bar, you can do this manually with dropbox links by changing the very last character of the address from the number 0 to the number 1.  I am not sure how it works for Google or phone numbers, but it is probably similar--change an element of the address.
