For the record, I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and the latest Firefox, as well as NVDA 2016.3, and have no problems with Firefox. None. Nada. I don't know what the problem could be for this person but I know I don't have it.

Re: NVDA and Open Book

One idea with open book is that it runns without nead of screenreader. That means you are able to use open book without any. When you turn on open book it will cancel Jaws. it's same company so it is well integrated. Of course it works with NVDA. but maybe yyou nead to turn speach off in Open book.

There is maybe an idea and target is some category of customers. But in genaral that is nothing for a mayority of us. it's very expensive and if i would be yoou, i have spend that money to upgrade my abby finereader.

I love Notepad and use it much for my documentation.

I see now that when I use the save option in Notepad, it goes as default to save it as ansi code and each time I have to change it manually to Utf-8 – as it was all the time before.

My qeustion:

Is there any way to change it permanently as it was before and I WILL NOT HAVE EACH TIME TO CHANGE THE ENCODING TO uTF-8.

I have another pc with Windows 7 and there, all is right.

Does this problem is only in my machine or it happens to work so with all windows10 anniversary users?

Please help.

Hi to every one,

Weather Plus bug report: by pressing nvda+shift+w.
This happens to those who have set the forecast up to 10 days.
To resolve the problem, reduce the days forecast to 9.
This morning seems to have been reduced the days of the forecast total, I
don't know if this thing is temporary, and will be reduced further, in that
case reduce these yet.
The problem has already been fixed and will be in the next upcoming update.
Thanks!

Since I do have jarte though its about all I will need.

True, if someone offers me office whatever the latest is and its funded for my business then hmmm.
Maybe I will use jaws because thats what people do for office and just use nvda for my personal use but I'd really like to use nvda for as much as I can.
Technically I could use my other comercial readers but since nvda needs to be used on a lot of things well.
I have got used to the ribbon in office and the shortcuts and it works as it should as long as I know the various code sequences.

Sorry, that next bit about Github went way over my head.
I'm browsing the list of changes via the website https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/commits/

You should also do:

The last two are required as many submodules have changed.
Note that you'll get commit messages in reverse order.
A lot has changed in the past five months, including:
* NVDA versions 2016.2.x and 2016.3 released.
* Fixes and workarounds for various applications and Windows versions
(you'll find my work under Windows 10 commits).
* Support for new braille displays.
* Support for new apps.
* Ability to disable individual add-ons without uninstalling them (one of my
favorite features to implement).
* Support for Edge-based controls and Mail app in Windows 10 version 1607.
* A feature or two that'll fundamentally change how people think about NVDA
(one of them is a fitting event for closing NVDA's tenth anniversary
celebrations, and this feature is about to land on next branch, so stay
tuned).
In case of the last one, I'll make an announcement to this forum and others,
as it requires extensive testing and NV Access and other developers
(including I) would like to receive feedback.

Hi

Just on this thread out of curiosity has any one done a tutorial on how to use it with NVDA? If they have can they point me in the right direction for it.

I have signed up for the free version of it to see how accesible it is etc.

If there is no one that has done a written tutorial or a audio one I will sus it out and see what comes together as in a tutorial.

It looks as though there is some material up there to point you in the right direction of how to use it.

Re: Symbols and making them more 'english'

As well as Jacob's information about the location of the speech dictionary itself, if you want to copy ALL your NVDA settings to move to a new computer, you can create a portable copy (on say a memory stick) via the NVDA Tools menu, move to the new computer, run the portable copy then from NVDA's tools menu choose "install NVDA".  Be sure to check "copy current user configuration" when you make the portable version, and check "copy portable version configuration" when you install on the new computer.

Kind regards

Re: New Window Information

Quentin Christensen

Hi Rob,

Yes if you go into the Browse mode settings - NVDA+control+b - there is an option for "Automatic say all on page load" which controls, you guessed it, whether the page starts reading when it finishes loading.  Uncheck that to stop it.  If you want it to do an automatic say all in some browse mode programs but not others, you can setup separate configuration profiles for different programs.

Straight keys to press are in the user guide: http://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html?

More detailed walkthrough and activities in the Basic Training for NVDA training module: http://www.nvaccess.org/shop/

Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are classed as "luxury items" and are

was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise in court.

The question which had to be answered was what criteria should be used to
class something as a cake or a biscuit. McVitie's defended the classification
of Jaffa Cakes as a cake by arguing that cakes go hard when stale, whereas
biscuits go soft. It was demonstrated that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale

Re: Weather.zipcodes: My own Customization

Ron Canazzi

Hi Anthony,

This listing at https://weather.codes/united-states-of-america/ gives entirely different weather codes than are listed in the Weather Plus Add on. I don't quite understand. None of the ones I type in show anything accurate.

Ah, okay.

In that case how about https://weather.codes/italy

Just change the name of country at the end (always in lower case, and
hyphenated if it's something like https://weather.codes/new-zealand/ ) and you
can get a list of all cities which have codes in that country.

I'm not sure whether there's a list of all the countries covered by this
system, though.

Hi Antony,

I am well aware of the zip code/postal code differentiation. My response
was to a question from Adriano concerning why I didn't import the postal
codes or Yahoo Weather designations from a weather.zipcodes file. I
asked him if there was some sort of master list.

ZIP codes only exist in the United States.

They're assigned by the United States Postal Service.

Other countries may (or may not) have systems based on a similar concept,
but the codes themselves can be quite different (for example British
Postcodes use letters as well as numbers), and the sizes of areas
covered by each code can vary considerably (for example British
Postcodes are often specific to a single street, whereas German
Postleitzahl cover quite large areas of a city).

Hi Adriano,

Is there some sort of master list somewhere of all the zip codes in the
world? If so, I haven't seen it. Where is it and how do I get it?

Call for testing: contracted braille input in NVDA

Hi everyone,

For some time, NV Access and other contributors were researching methods of letting users input text using contracted braille via a braille display. -I’m delighted to announce that  a test version (in the form of a next branch snapshot) is now available (next-13643).

More information on this effort can be found at:

https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/2439
And:

https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/6449

Issues to be tested include:

*General experience when entering text in contracted braille in various situations.

* Entering text using various tables, including Unified English Braille (UEB), various English and other language tables and others.

* Other unexpected situations.

If you have feedback:

·        GitHub users: please comment on issues 2439 and/or 6449.

·        Send an email to James Teh (NV Access) at Jamie@....

·        Contact braille contributors, including I (Joseph Lee; new UEB table set, Korean braille tables and BrailleNote), Leonard (HIMS products), Davy Kager (Liblouis and Dutch tables), Michel Such (French translator), Derek Riemer (UEB input tester) and others.

·        Some of us have Twitter handles (Jamie’s is @jcsteh, mine is @joslee, Derek’s is @derekriemer) and others. You can also use #NVDASR hashtag or mention @NVAccess.

As this is an important feature, please test this feature widely. Thanks, and I and others look forward to reading your feedback.

Cheers,

Joseph

New Window Information

Is there a way to set NVDA to read only the currently active control when you enter a dialog, rather than the whole window?

Re: spotify and music sounds

It depends on how you are going to use it.  There are apps for mobile phones and other such devices.  There is an application you can install but I'm not sure if it is accessible enough to use conveniently with Windows.  You can also play content directly by using the web site itself.  When I tried this awhile ago, doing so was reasonably accessible.  But if you want to try installing and playing with the Windows application, you may certainly do so.
That appears to be a direct download link for Windows users.

Also, on the spotify home page
there is a download link.
I haven't checked to see what you see when you follow it.
