Re: facebook question

Hello,

There's really nothing that can be done as far as NVDA goes.

However, what I would suggest is to either use the regular Facebook site which is a lot more accessible now, or contact the Facebook Accessibility team and file a bug so that they can fix it.

I hope this helps,
Jeffrey

Re: Outlook 2016 and Ribbon

Gene

Ribbons are not menus.  They are ribbons.  In a program with ribbons, open the ribbons with alt.  Use the left and right arrow to move from ribbon to ribbon, as you would move from menu to menu.  Let's say you want to look through the view ribbon.  When you get to view, start to tab.  You will move through all the items in the view menu.  If you get to a menu, available in the ribbon in this way, press enter or space bar to open the menu.  Activate buttons in the usual way, with the space bar.  If you have problems working with structures, let us know.  There are often a lot more items in a ribbon than in one menu.  Something you intend to use regularly would be a good idea to memorize the command for.  As you move through the ribbon, such as the view ribbon, you will hear, if you let your screen-reader read to the end every time you tab, a command.  For example, this is fictitious, and if there is such a command it is coincidental, enlarge, v e.  If you press alt and then v and then e, you will activate the command or open the item, such as a menu.

There are other commands to move faster between sections of a ribbon, but I'll let others discuss them.  I don't use ribbons enough to remember.  In other words, ribbons are generally divided into sections and you can move from section to section.  For example, an e-mail program may have a section in a ribbon named respond, where you will find commands such as reply and forward.
Ribbon programs do have one menu you will find by left and right arrowing through the ribbons.  As you left and right arrow, you will come across something that says file, as I recall,  and it is a menu.  you may hear something else announced, I don't remember just what.  Perhaps something about a grid if you let your screen-reader read everything about the menu.  Don't worry about it.  Some common commands are in the menu such as save as.  You will see commands such as f,a, for save as in that menu.  Some of these commands will be the same as you are used to.

I very much prefer "Checkbox. Would you like to receive spam? Not checked"

It introduces what the item is before you hear any details about it, and it
also neatly "frames" the item so you know exactly where it starts and ends.

Someone might just as easily have created a webpage containing the text "Would
you like to receive", followed by several options such as "spam", "junk mail"
"nuisance phone calls", "unexpected visitors" etc, so it's nice to know where
the description of each selectable item begins and ends.

Also, knowing whether something is a link, or a checkbox, or a drop-down list,
before you hear any details about what it says, makes more sense to me than
hearing what something says and then finding out what it was.

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

I seem to recall it was mostly unrecognised character sets or encoding that caused it before. It still happens sometimes, notably when somebody uses Linux based email software but sometimes merely changing the default character coding can make it work. its not only on a freelists list, its any list or any content from email messages that can be affected.

it is now a lot less common as people aware learning how to stop it happening at send time I imagine.

Hi,

During the past year there was some discussion about some emails coming from
freelists with a blank message body.

This is happening again and I cannot find the solutions which were presented
earlier.

I have found the Microsoft instructions to stop security add-ins in Outlook
that have prevented the deletion of the message body under whatever
unexplained conditions applied at the time. I do not have any of the
mentioned add-ins which include AVG. It appears that Outlook may be the
culprit. Any advice?

I am using Windows 10, outlook 2016 and NVDA 2016.3 on a desktop PC.

All the best,

Shirley,

I usually go to the page display menu and choose continuous reading. That seems to let NVDA keep scrolling through the pages sequentially. I can go from page to page using control+page down. In "page Navigation" you can also move from page to page and there is a "go to page "option in that menu.

Re: Scrolling in Adobe Reader

Not that I know of, as adobe reader does not know there are other pages as you only opened the one.
Can I ask why you do not want to open the whole document? Its pretty fast to do, or are we talking absolutely huge things like hundreds of pages here?

The restriction is more with adobe reader than anything else in myexperience, you actually have tocommand it to open the next page each time. Brian

Hmmm a lot of websites for radio are flash based and are just not that good.
One thing I use a lot which has a lot is iheart radio, just search for it by name.
Its advertised on just about every station I have here in new zealand and does a lot more.
Its free to join and its fully apped on every standard device.
Its accessible as far as I can see and the quality is slightly better than fm though it does depend on the station of choice ofcause.
For example if it is just an am station, it will be mono but the quality will be fm or slightly better with maybe a little more digital noise but still better.
I have not tried other features though.
