To answer your first question, there is no separate cursor.  The whole reason for Browse Mode is that web pages don't have cursors. The cursor you work with in browse mode isn't on the web page. 

You can avoid the whole problem by using this link to sign into GMail: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/h/ If you can't use that link for some reason, let us know.  I'll tell you how to find the
