Well, I’m missing something. In the laptop layout, NVDA+L and NVDA+GREATER-THAN (>) do the same thing. The first press reads the line, or in this case, since I’m in windows Explorer, the file

The laptop keystroke for "Report current line in review" (which is what numpad 8 is in desktop layout) is NVDA+shift+.
It's a bit more cumbersome but it does what you were trying to

I use the laptop layout and my keyboard does not even seem to have a way to
generate a keypad. What are the laptop keyboard equivalents for NVDA+numpad
7 and 8?
