By the way, Openwith also works if I press Tab key, so I think this may have
nothing to do with my add-on; I'll keep all possibilities open (and delay my
vacation for a bit).

The only other USB devices used are external drives or keyboard and mouse. If the old Braille Edge is still ticking, I will try that today and see what happens. Perplexing problem.

Openwith barely usable with NVDA 2018.3
When launching a file type that has no associated eextension, windows pops up a dialog asking what program with which to open the file.
Since upgrading to windows build 1803, this dialog is no longer
