Hi David,
Yes, when running the slideshow, press CONTROL+SHIFT+S to toggle between reading the slide content and the speaker notes.

There is now a add on you can install into nvda that will make it alot easier to change it.
You can get it from the official add on website which can be accessed through tools then manage add ons

I finally got it to work. I have no idea what finally worked. I did the exact same steps each time but it finally rearranged the collumns.

I checked using a much newer version of chrome. The old version didn't report the items as tabs. It showed them as links. the very recent version does say tab for those items. They are perhaps ten
