The message says that NVdA only speaks when the mouse is used. It's running. Evidently, the keyboard has stopped functioning, which happens now and then.

Just press the power button and release it after a moment. That is the standard way to shut down Windows without using the keyboard or mouse.

There is no way to manually force this Microsoft surface tablet to shut
down. I guess I'll have to go to the Microsoft store. Maybe they can fix it.

I’ll try that. But when my sighted friend tried that it said slide to shut down. She tried that and it didn’t work.

Don't be too discouraged, breaking things is quite normal.

Re: fore some reason nvda isn't talking when I'm using my keyboard
If you aren't able to pass the lockscreen, why not restart the computer manually? That is, pressing the button that turns the computer on/off for some time will restart the system, anyway.

Thanks. I’ll try that. I first have to figure out how to get out of the lock screen first.

I forgot to mention, before restarting your system unnecessarily, it's always good trying to restart NVDA itself and see what happens.
Cheers,

Hey, first, don't worry. This how computers work, I guess. Sometimes it just runs out of our control, but there's always a solution whatever your problem is.
Considering you said that no

Hi,
Correction to step 5: the actual setting you want is next door - "report background progress bars" checkbox.
Cheers,

Re: waterfox portable and enabling accessibility support?
Are you saying that the portable version is different to the installed one?
I've not tried it I must admit, but if its still based on the old mozilla code it should just work like the firefox old
