Dan, Are you, by chance, using webmail? Mailto: links won't necessarily work smoothly with some webmail. If you bring up the context menu and copy that link, it is a mailto: link.

That won't work. If you press NVDA+F2, then Control+Alt+N, NVDA will be restarted. This is because it is a desktop shortcut and not an NVDA command.
