I can use the latest version of Notepad++ just fine with NVDA. I am running NVDA 2019.2 beta 1 on a Windows 10 desktop.

Also, at this point in time, there is nearly dead Edge, which isn't worth dedicating any effort on, and being born Chromium-based Edge, which is handled quite well by screen readers, as it is built on

On Edge and Firefox I have to let it read the entire page and cannot stop it or go back to anything else it won’t read anything else.
On IE I can at least read things if I stop it reading, but

You can also use Notepad++ but do not get the latest version as it isn’t compatible with NVDA. The version, at least the one I use on a regular basis for python and json btw, is version 7.6.

I don't use Chrome, I use Mozila Firefox.
During downloading I press Ctrl+J, then I can hear the beef and also the voice saying the numbers of procents.
