Control shift down arrow is never used in moving through lists. it is the wrong command to use for the purpose originally asked about and it is never used in moving in a list in general.

Hi
It’s not the wrong command, you just need to understand how it works. Control+shift+Down Arrow checks the selection status of the file in focus and applies the same selection status to files

I don't mark messzages myself, I go through and unmark messages as spam, all I was saying is that some filters look for words which could be.

Well itt may be some certain words.
Even google marks some of these messages as spam from time to time.
I always clear the junk folders daily and check.

Not control key home. If you move in a folder using control, however you move, nothing is selected or unselected. I'm saying that if you are in a folder, move around in it using the arrow keys, home

I just done it to 2 different folders that I went into.
So when I go in see all the files then use ctrl key + home key none is selected unless I want it selected. This is on windows 10. I

The tutorial omits something important. If you move to the top of the list, the item you have moved to is selected. If you hold control and you don't want it selected, you should press space on that

To select contiguous items, just use shift. To select items that are not contiguous, hold control and down arrow until you get to something you want to select, and press space while still holding

When you use ctrl-down arrow, you press spacebar on any file you want to select. If the files are contiguous you can use shift down arrow, but not I think ctrl-shift down arrow.
