Your experience may have been that speech was off but that is definitely not typical or expected behavior. I can understand someone being skeptical, but at the same time, I think it is a good idea

Weird Editing Behaviour in Chrome and Edge?
NVDA stops reading entered text once you start typing, at least in
search boxes like Google's and Youtube's. Is there reasoning behind
this? I didn't see any updates to anything, it just started doing

&, btw, if you go to the preferences > help menu > user guide (u) &
press enter, then search for input gestures, the link pops up on the
screen for you to activate. There's all sorts of info in there,

Go to preferences > settings > input gestures. Expand the categories
treeview to see the various keys assigned w/right arrow, collapse it
w/left.

Thanks, Gene. I'll give that one a try. Also, when I boot up, before NVDA starts, there is a very loud voice that says something about log in. And again when I shut down after NVDA

My guess is that the beeps you are talking about are changed by the system sounds control in the Windows volume control.
