Re: Unable to set row or column headers in Excel
The main things I can think of are:
- are you SURE you are pressing the right keys? EG if using the numpad insert, is numlock off?
- Are you in edit mode? EG when you start typing in a cell or press

Hi Brian,
Thank you for the response. My mistake —I actually meant to include that this is Office 365. This is my work laptop and I believe Windows is set to update automatically but I will manually

Re: Reading PDF files.
Monte,
Then the ability to open PDFs by Word did come in at Word 2013. The edition didn't matter, once it was there, it was there for all editions within a given overall release, 2013 in this case.

Although this is not likely the central issue, you're on Windows 10 Version 20H2, which is now two full feature updates behind. It would make sense to get up-to-date there.

Re: Reading PDF files.
I had office 2013 on a previous pc and it would open pdf files
It was the business class version, not the home/student version.

Bill,
PDF files can be opened directly in most Chromium-based web browsers, and I think even Firefox does this now. Once they're open in your browser use your usual commands to get around in

Hi,
NVDA not focusing to desktop when closing apps: it depends on where NVDA thinks system focus is. NVDA stores a reference to object with system focus, and when a program closes, NVDA will move

Re: Shortcuts not announced when moving through settings
It is irrelevant what a program for sighted people does or doesn't do. What is relevant is whether this can reasonably be done and if it is thought to be of enough value to do so.

Reading PDF files.
Can anyone give me a step by step guide as to how I can get NVDA to read PDF
files, also, how to convert a PDF file to a Word document. Any help would be
appreciated.

I just played around with this. I made two new desktops, then renamed them to foo and bar, so I had desktop1, foo, and bar. Switching to foo and bar, they both said "explorer" when I hit

Hi,
Category lists such as those found in NVDA and Thunderbird are similar interfaces because they are, after all, lists, not menus. Besides, the way they are defined in NVDA source code makes this

Yes, this is exactly what I would like. I at any given time have anywhere from 6-8 desktops working.
It would be nice to have a command that gives me the title of the active desktop. Jaws

Re: Shortcuts not announced when moving through settings
No sighted program does this, so why should nvda expose stuff that a sighted person would not see? This is why it’s important to read the keyboard guides and quick starts to any program if they do
