If it's not in your Downloads folder then it's where you instructed (whether you realized it or not) the browser to put it.
The downloads manager in every major web browser can be accessed via CTRL +

Tap your windows key on your keyboard,
Type in NVDA. E X and it should populate a list and you can find it in there and then arrow to the right when it’s highlighted and shoes show location

I just downloaded the newest (I think) NVDA, 21.3.3. I don't know where it is. It's not in my downloads folder; can't find it in my "program files\nvda" folder.

It's a desktop computer; no FN key. At this point, pressing NVDA plus F12 says nothing. Maybe it said the volume because I had the volume control window open. Tried running NVDA without addons;

Have you followed The Most Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Suspected NVDA Issues?
You need to eliminate the possible involvement of add-ons, among other things.
You do not say whether you've restarted

convert that into text.

You don't do the OCR itself with NVDA, as the built-in OCR feature of NVDA is meant for dealing with information on-screen.
