Although I think I know the answer, I need to ask someone who's using this technique to verify: Does toggling the mousepad off affect only the trackpad portion, or also disable the left/right

There are various ways to get to mouse settings. I do so by opening the start menu and typing mouse into the search field.

Linux treats it a small differently than Windows,
but on the Windows side, go to the mouse settings and advanced mouse properties.

I looked at settings and I see that you meant alert and tips. It is a button or a check box, depending on how you move to it. Try unchecking it if the e-mail address is doing something you don't
