Thank you, that's indeed a very sensible analysis. It was a mistake to believe that a sighted writer would take into account alternative ways to use a computer. Too idealistic for sure!

There are times in Windows where, if you select something, a tool tip will be shown and as I recall, NVDA is set to read tooltips by default. Try moving through the items on the desktop and see if

Thank you Brian for the response. I found the "report tooltips" ceckbox as well. But from what I read online, we need a mouse pointer in order to display the tooltip. That's why I was somehow puzzled

The only way to do this in NVDA is to check the check box for line numbers in document formatting. Go to NVDA menu> preferences> document formatting> check box for line numbers.

Is there a way to fine out what line you are on in your document?
In Jaws when you press insert/caps lock plus period it tells you the line
number you are on.

I have just gone back and run FS Reader without any issue using the latest NVDA release.
I have Jaws 18 and 19 Beta installed on this system though.

I have noticed that some alerts in windows and other software are using some odd way of displaying a message. Even if it opens in the background, alt tabbing to it will not actually read it.
