What players are on your machine? You can play the DVD from the program, if the program you are using can play it.

Is it possible that you have it in upside down?
DVDs often have a ridge (ring around the hole) on both sides of the DVD.

The box is checked to play CD's and DVD's automatically but it's just not happening for me. Maybe I disabled it by mistake--who knows. How do I enable it to start automatically?

Usually by default, unless it’s disabled, it will start playing in media player when you insert the DVD.
I usually disable this.

It does not worry me if the field names are not spoken out when either you tab into them or use the E key for edit areas or F for form fields.
If i use the nvda key + down arrow key it reads out

I use VLC media player most of the time.
Although I’m not sure the “open with” method actually works in this case. I will have to test it. I usually access through the media menu in VLC.

Perhaps someone else who knows more technically will say whether you can install XP using a 32 bit Windows 7 environment. I really doubt it but we'll see.
