My son has had the surface Pro for a while now and his major complaint is the interface between the tablet and keyboard. Fails to connect often and drops connection often.

No that will merely speak stuff that could be wrong, not really an issue.
Just hold the button for maybe a second, that should do a restart, if you do it longer it might force a not very nice

Weird that sounds almost like an Apple prompt!

I'm used to braking things. In fact as part of any beta program or usign any software I find ways to brake it then ask the devs to fix. lol!
