You've already been told about using NVDA+S (typically INS+S, if using desktop keyboard layout) to toggle the NVDA Speech state.

Just hit the NVDA key and S. This will toggle you through speech mode off (this is what you want) speech mode beeps and speech mode talk which is what you want when using the screen

Hi
If you still want nvda running but no voice out put at all use the nvda key + letter S and toggle it to speech mode off.
NVDA will still be running but you will not hear any thing.

I've never gotten system restore to role me back to anything stable. I have it on, but I don't trust it 100 percent.

Now its not happened this time, so maybe it remembers things between the portable and the installed versions? How can this be?

I had not realised that any decision on what is read would actually affect nvdas own settings as if that were true, surely the situation could be envisaged where you could not actually change anything

When I updated the alpha snap which is a temp copy of nvda, it did as we have heard ask me to decide which of the non updated add ons I wished to accept. OK so I did that but why is it tht on my
