I can't tell you exactly what Window-eyes offered compared with other screen-readers but I am not convinced that some, perhaps a good deal of your opinion is the result of not knowing some more

Agreed. The point of hypertext links is that you click on the text to follow the link. Seems obvious.

There’s nothing wrong with what you did to be honest. As I say, screen readers say the word link after the word Here, so it’s obvious enough.

Because a lot of apps that work with screen readers don't work unless you get it from its own page. Like iTunes its in the store, but the download from there web page is

Nope, you have to buy windows to get narrator so not free.
Now Nvda is free third party software.
Even though you have to have windows to use it.

OK, Symantec’s. Narrator comes with Windows, so as such it is free.
In other words, you can’t buy Narrator, and you can’t run it without Windows.
