You need to go into NVDA's document formatting settings and ensure the attributes you want reported are checked - font attributes for bold and italics.

I'm very surprised that anything to do with a statutory body in most countries still uses these, as legislation should make the use of visual only devices illegal.
There are now so many other choices

That being said the extension that I've used in the past is Rumola, which you can get

Sorry, but this is plain wrong. You don’t need to log into any account for JAWS to give you image descriptions, but I do agree, they probably paid handsomely for the privilege.

I don't think there is another suitable key. Control is already used to interrupt speech because it does nothing when pressed by itself.

Certainly, the choice of the "Shift" key to interrupt speech may not be very judicious.
