2. Run NVDA from the USB drive.
3. Go to the NVDA menu, tools, and pick install, or whatever it's
called. I can't tell

Whenever you define a command for a global plugin, it is applied everywhere. This means it'll override contextual commands such as when using applications,

If it is a word specific key stroke, you could use it other places for other things. If not that one, how about NVDA+SHIFT+C etc?
