This has been a bug for some time. I hope they can get it fixed at some time as it is quite anoing. I am using NVDA 2017.3.

Well the only known issues I've seen on my machine was that one may need to rename or move a dictionary file for espeak. Otherwise it should work given that your machine is at least running

Do an alt tab and look for any errors hidden beneath then cancel it and see if it runs. This issue should not occur, but what are you overwriting as the old

I have just been reading on the user list that a couple of people say that the new rc somehow turns off the start at start up checkbox when updating a system.
