That's just it sir. I get no speech. I get no feedback at all via my local computer when I press keys sending keys to the remote computer. I only know for sure that I am controlling the remote

The computer you're controlling sends the speech over. So you'll hear whatever the remote NVDA says. It doesn't send other audio, such as music.
