I tried Small Basic quite a few years ago now with one of my students but it was completely inaccessible then so we covered the same concepts but using Python instead.

you want the checkbox unchecked. It says automatically check for updates. You don't want it to.

Also I don't think her NVDA is set to update automatically as we always had to click a pop up for it to do the update / install an new update.

What I have generally understood that phrase to mean is having NVDA running under Windows Secure mode, e.g., on login screens, when UAC dialogs come up, etc.
