is this the same as changing the Windows language? You can do that with WINDOWS+SPACEBAR, and that also changes the keyboard.

It will, but I find holding space and talking is a lot quicker at times. Especially if I need to say something quick. I was taught that during a class.

Hi, all you do is hold down the alt key and hit a. You will be muted. When you unmute do the same thing. I tried with both jaws and NVDA. When I mute Jaws will say your audio is muted. NVDA says

Use the short cut command alt a to switch between mute and unmute. I don't know why you don't hear the status spoken fully when you do what you do. When I use alt a with NVDA, I hear the status

interface, so it is always in focus mode.
It covers the sound when I'm trying to get down into very small sounds

Solved! I called the Microsoft help desk through Be My Eyes, and they told me there was a dialog that asked me to enable macros, so I pressed F6, hit OK, and space to check the box works!
