Re: Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser Find

I don’t know where you are when you use the command. Is this another
example of why I say that automatic sswoitching between browse mode on and off
should be done manually, not automatically, which is the default? If you
are somewhere where browse mode is automatically turned off, what you describe
will happen.

Subject: [nvda] Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser
Find I'm
now frustrated enough to ask this question. It had always been my belief that hitting NVDA+CTRL+F would force the NVDA Find dialog to come up and be used to search a webpage. I often want to be able to do this when searching for controls that don't necessarily show up with a straight browser find. In trying to work on Maria's issue, I tried several times to get the NVDA find to come up to find the Language Selector button, but it wouldn't. I'd hit NVDA+CTRL+F and still get the Brave browser find. This has happened plenty in Chrome and Edge Dev, too, so I know it's not "just a Brave thing." What am I missing? There are times I absolutely want to force an NVDA Find, and it seems that sometimes I cannot do that. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Re: Forcing NVDA Find versus Browser Find
Hi, NVDA’s find command can be used in browse mode only, as pressing Control+NVDA+F in focus mode will invoke browser’s own find interface, as it is actually Control+F that will be received by the browser. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Questions
Gene
You can create a portable copy and move it or copy it wherever you
want. Portable programs aren’t installed so the answer to the question is
that you can have as many portable copies on a machine as you want and they can
be any compatible versions. There is no limit to the current or older
versions you can have on the machine if they are portable and compatible with
the version of Windows running. But you can only have one installed copy
of NVDA on a machine at a time.

As for NVDA remote and NVDA 2019.3, I believe they are compatible,
yes.
Hope this helps.

Maria, I'm not a developer, but here are some things to check.

1) Go to control panel > region and language settings & ensure that English United States is set. 2) Next, press the nvda menu key combination, go to preferences > settings & thence to the speech tab. I uncheck the following items: automatic language switching when supported automatic dialect switching when supported trust voice's language when processing characters& symbols. Jaws also has similar settings where language options can be disabled. I'm curious what synthesizer you're using?

Re: Can a developer test this for me?
Maria,
There is a dropdown on that page that allows you to select English or Spanish, and I have the suspicion that if you don't do so you end up somehow "stumbling into" the Spanish language side of the site (which is still based in the USA). When I select US along with the English radio button, it takes me here: https://www.manpower.com/ManpowerUSA/home/!ut/p/z1/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfIjo8ziTfw9zDw9nA18LFyDjAwczTwDjYw9jIydPY31w_Wj9KOASgxwAEcD_eDUvPjQYP2C7LxyABr7J-Y!/dz/d5/L0lHSkovd0RNQUZrQUVnQSEhLzROVkUvZW4!/ If that direct link doesn't work for you, search for the Language Selector Menu Button and activate it. This is where the country dropdown and language radio buttons are revealed. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Hi,

I cannot reproduce this. Try seeing if "Automatic language switching (when supported)" setting is on (found in NVDA settings/voice category), and if yes, try after turning it off. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Questions
You can't run two *installed* versions on the same machine, but you can run one installed version and as many portable versions as you like, or you can run everything portable (but I wouldn't).
You can use NVDA Remote with 2019.3, but you have to get the compatible version of the download, see the NVDA Remote Access Download Page. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Glad to see the integration works. I admit, if NVDA crashes, though, couldn't you just hit CTRL, ALT, N?

I have got this error consistently for some months now. It works correctly if I download the update straight after restarting, otherwise not. It's irritating but I didn't report it as I couldn't find a pattern for how to reproduce.
Cheers, Áine
