And finally, Add-on Updater 20.06
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Add-on Updater 20.06 is now available. As an add-on that has gone through one of the most changes as a result of Flake8, along with not breaking update facility for other add-ons, this add-on became the last one to get 20.06. As always, Add-on Updater 20.06 is available through community add-ons website, or ironically enough, through Add-on Updater itself.
And with that, I’m taking a break from NVDA add-ons world for a while. The next releases will be done in July. Cheers, Joseph

#addonrelease
Hello everyone,
StationPlaylist add-on version 20.06 is now available. Besides Flake8 work, this version retires time-based broadcast profiles, Window-Eyes layout for SPL Assistant, among other changes. As always, the new release is available from community add-ons website and via Add-on Updater:

Thank you, Laurie On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, 10:01:08 AM PDT, Gene <gsasner@...> wrote: This isn't an NVDA question. I'll answer it but I won't discuss it further here, but in the chat group. From now on, open the context menu and type d, if my memory is correct about the short cut. You can use the search book marks feature but you have to get to it in a different way now. Control I doesn't open book mark search in most parts of the program interface now. Instead, use this cumbersome method. I think that often, searching for a bookmark is convenient enough that fooling around with the cumbersome interface is worth it. Open the library part of Firefox that deals with book marks with control shift b. Shift tab twice. Type what you are looking for. Tab once. You will see search results. Press enter on the one you want, you are working just as if you were in control I results now. Then, once the desired page loads, alt tab to library and close it with alt f4. If you want to see the tree view you saw with control I when you tabbed once without typing anything, do the following: Open the library, control shift b, and shift tab once. You are now in the tree view. Gene

I would like to clean up my bookmarks. There was a method I had used in the past involving control+i which now seems to not work as it had previously. Googling led me to hear of a way to remove a bookmark where you click an icon on the address bar-- something I had no luck in finding how to access that icon from the address bar. How can I remove bookmarks, either one at a time or in multiples, using only the keyboard with NVDA? Thanks! --Laurie M.

Thank you very much Chris! That took me to the library of bookmarks where I could navigate to the ones I wanted to remove and then used shift-F10 to get the context menu to delete. This was very helpful. Thanks! -Laurie On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, 09:58:09 AM PDT, Chris via groups.io <chrismedley@...> wrote: I think you may be looking for ctrl+shift+B

No, NVDA did not prompt me to restart. It did prompt me to shut it down. I heard the shutting down sound, then it just sat there. That’s when I restarted it manually. Hope this helps.

Hi, Did NVDA prompt you to restart after installing the add-on? Normally it should (if it didn’t and you used Add-on Updater to update, that’s something I need to think about). Cheers, Joseph

Hello all,
I just wanted to let you know that, at least for me, NVDA did not automatically restart after installing the most recent Windows 10 App Essentials update. I had to restart NVDA manually. In case your computer stops talking for a long time after you have shut NVDA down as instructed, try this. I know this sounds pretty basic, but there may be users out here who get hung up by this.
Cheers,

If this is an organization you deal with frequently, they should be made aware that they are using HTML coding that is both non-standard and not accessible. Even if I click in to the text itself, you get nothing with a read all or any motion through the text. It's as though there's a "cloak of invisibility" placed over it. This is not in any way characteristic of most HTML formatted messages (which should be as accessible as web pages are). It's always good to have several tricks in your back pocket, as Gene has suggested, for dealing with this when you need to. But, the people that should be dealing with the issue are those generating the message to begin with. It probably takes more effort to create and inaccessible HTML message than a correctly formatted one. This is the first I've ever dealt with that has the total "cloak of invisibility" quality. Re: What do You prefer to write Docs, Presentations, or Spreadsheets with NVDA
To be honest same here. Now All I need is a modern word document converter. I have a lot of old word documents in word 95, there is supposed to be a way to make it do and I do have the files from an old xp system and I have installed them the way jart wants me to do but they don't render right. I know I can manually do it all but is there a way to say submit something to somewhre or do it in batch or something. My only stipulation is it needs to be free or low cost because I'd not be doing it more than once otherwise I will haveto process things one at a time.

When you are doing a thing like this on some manufacturer's laptops, be aware that you may be losing utilities that control extended features of the hardware for which there is no native Windows control method. For example, on my MSI gaming laptop (which is a splendid laptop I might add), the MSI SCM utility software, and the MSI Dragon Center, are required to manage things like hardware buttons, keyboard backlighting, battery max charge (to keep it from charging past 80% for supposed better battery longevity), the FN-F4 run program macro, and various other things. If your laptop has features like this, that are only accessible with a manufacturer supplied utility or group of same, you will probably want to download those again once you're on the other side of your Windows reinstall. More accurately, you will probably want to make note of where and how to download those again, assuming you can. (N.B. and no, for the record, MSI's Dragon Center is far from fully accessible with NVDA.) Luke

Re: nvda 2019.3 vocalizer, and remote support
Hmmm the only time this happens is if there is a server dropout.
there was one a bit ago and I lost connection on the server. But I still had a seat on the activation I confirmed with code factory. From time to time the programs dial home to check if they are still active. If there is a connection outage then that stops working. You can't activate or deactivate when the servers are down. However, when they go up again you will have to reactivate to reestablish connection and will not lose a licence. It seems ok for me but then I havn't tried to deactivate anything yet but will be in the next few days when I update to 2004. I would email code factory to see if there is an outage then try again to activate the licence.

That's exactly what I did [a completely clean reinstall on a brand-new machine]It's something that many technicians will do, and if you have an SSD it's an incredibly fast process. What takes the most time is getting updates that may have been issued since the last ISO building blocks were officially released. For the ISO for version 1909 I snagged yesterday, the check for additional updates and downloading them took less than 2 minutes. Mind you, the client had fiber-optic internet, which helps immensely, but you can still get a sense of how much it was snagging, and at this stage in the game with version 1909 it was very little. Using install media created via the Microsoft Windows 10 Media Creation Tool gets you the most "stripped down and essential" Windows 10 installation you can get. Even then, take the time to actually review the various screens during setup and tweak to your liking. At this point I'm going to ask that unless someone wishes to propose another third-party uninstaller that's accessible via NVDA, we take this to the Chat Subgroup if the discussion of getting the cleanest fresh install of Windows 10 requires more discussion. I'll end with noting you're definitely right, Kenny, that using any manufacturer's restore partition/utility to restore your machine to its "out of the box" state does just that - bloatware and all. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. That's exactly what I did with my new Dell XPS PC. You can't reset it for it will put all the McAfee and other unnecessary factory installed bloatware back. Had to use the Microsoft Media Creation tool to install a fresh copy of Windows 10. Worked out perfect for me.
