Portable Copy of NVDA with Add-ons
Abbie Taylor
I’m getting a new hard drive for my computer. I’m planning to create a portable copy of NVDA in case the software can’t be transferred to the new drive from the old. I understand that when I do this, all settings are saved but what about add-ons? Do I need to copy those files separately, then install them after installing the portable copy on my new hard drive? Thanks in advance for any answers.

As Sarah noted, Google sheets is an online spreadsheet service, as all the Google suite applications are and google drive itself. So you access it with your browser, and log in with your Google or Gmail account. Google have a page with tips on getting setup with a screen reader: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/1632199?hl=en I think you'll find that you can't do quite as much as with Excel, but here is a page on how to import your existing Excel workbooks into Google Sheets: https://www.howtogeek.com/398570/how-to-import-an-excel-document-into-google-sheets/ Kind regards Quentin.

Hi, I once tried to do that, but found it difficult to port the add-on to Python 3. Besides, Remote add-on patches speech functions that may have seen vast changes between 2019.2 and 2019.3, contributing to headaches. Cheers, Joseph

Is it the one with windows 10 or the add on? if it is the second one then you had to use the text review cursor on the numeric keypad to read what had been ocred.

Firefox, not Chrome, and I'd really like to figure out why NVDA's OCR isn't doing what it's supposed to. I wonder if it's even working, because I tried running it in an app the other day and got nothing out of it. I assumed it was just something it couldn't recognize, but now I wonder if it's just not really doing anything.

Hi
This may not help or it could.
if you are using the google browser while on any page hit the applications key then arrow down to get image description from google. It will then give you 2 options once only or always.
I leave mine on always It will do your whole page if there is no description on any of the images etc. If left on will do it for all your pages.
There is a message that comes up after you pick always just agree to it and you are right to go.
It can always be turned off the same way but pick once.
There is a tutorial and audio one so you can hear what it does on my nvda tutorials for other programs page.
Just look for get image describer from google in the list.

According to the linked website, the ads may actually be from a simultaneously installed program called Connect. One recommendation is to uninstall Connect, although this will disable WiFi transfer and Cloud import. https://www.magix.info/us/forum/how-to-stop-music-maker-screen-popups-ads--1208235/ Another solution is to enter the Connect program, and in the section for Info Channels, disable all. In this link, the pictures are screenshots of the program before and after disabling all info channels. The tabs for each section are on the left side, and read WiFi Transfer, Cloud Import, Info Channels, Settings, and About. The description in the Info Channels section reads as follows: Info Channels Activate MAGIX Connect info channels to to find out about the latest software updates and offers for all of your installed MAGIX programs. And the following scrollable box contains a list of programs to recieve related ads.

Re: Advertising Windows that overlay part of the screen
Chris,
Sorry, but I misunderstood your situation. If this is being put up by the program, and the program is freeware, my guess is you will not be able to stop it and without having the thing to play with in person I have no idea how you'd access the overlay. If the program is paid, it's outrageous that it would present ads to begin with, and I'd complain loudly to the software maker. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

I'm not sure how thils answers my question. I've already got a situation where
the window appears every time I reboot my computer. This would not seem browser related. When the ad window appears, it blocks part of my screen but NVDA cannot find it so I can dismiss it. How can Iget NVDA to find it? Or is there some other way to dismiss? Thanks. StationPlaylist and Windows 10 App Essentials 19.11
#addonrelease
Hi all,
Version 19.11 of StationPlaylist and Windows 10 App Essentials (and in case of the latter, October 30th snapshot) are now available. StationPlaylist update brings changes to encoder status command (SPL Controller, E), and Windows 10 App Essentials brings significant changes requiring NVDA 2019.2.1.
IMPORTANT: if you are using Windows 10 App Essentials, add-on 19.11 requires NVDA 2019.2.1 or later. This is done to reduce code size and to serve as a stepping stone for a future release that will absolutely require upcoming NVDA 2019.3.
Cheers, Joseph

Re: Porotection failure issue in PDF
Quentin Christensen
What program are you opening it in? Most browsers will have their own inbuilt PDF previewer, which may work with varying success on different PDF files. I recommend downloading the file and opening it in Adobe Reader. Protection failure sounds like it might have been password protected or something, or maybe the program thinks it was supposed to be password protected, but for some reason that isn't working? Since you mentioned using Jaws, if you open the file with Jaws running rather than NVDA, do you get the protection failure error? My guess is that error is something to do with the PDF file or software itself and not related to the screen reader. Also, are you using any anti-virus software on the computer? That's the only other thing I can think of that might interfere. Regards Quentin.
