Re: NVDA 2020 Beta Version
FYI, I've retitled to make searches easier. If anyone's got more information going forward, please use this message, or any one that carries the title, "NVDA 2020 Beta Version," to respond to so everything stays together.

Re: Offline dictionary

I don’t have the current version, I don’t use it much but I use screen
review to look at the results. Also, I have no problem typing a word and
then activating the search button in my version. When I open the program,
I am already in the edit field, which I believe may acgtually be something else
like a combo box. I type the word, then tab, I believe once, to the search
button and press the space bar. I then use screen review to look at the
results. its more likely you will see everything and its easier than
tabbing to the right place and looking in other ways.
You can try the program and see if it is still laid out and works similarly
to my version.
It has an insulting and intrusive license agreement. The developer is
obsessed with airline travel as a way of determining who doesn’t have enough
money to justify using the demo as a free version and that is how you convert
the demo to the free version. When the demo time runs out, or when you
want, you certify that you haven’t flown more than something like two times in
the last year. And thus, the planet will be saved.

Re: Good News About New Edge
Unless something has changed radically, and I'm not saying it hasn't, the PDF functionality in most browsers does not support editing of/in the PDF itself.

Re: Good News About New Edge
Ron,
Thanks for the update. I am going to have to give Edge a whirl as a PDF reader just to try it out. The fact that the screen reader search works well with the PDF reading functionality, along with copy and paste being easy as well, are both big bonuses. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 Science has become just another voice in the room; it has lost its platform. Good News About New Edge
Ron Canazzi
Hi Group,
Well after my debacal of Saturday (boy do I still feel so bum about that one!) I do have some good news. There had been discussion about how the new Edge browser had broken the reading of PDF in the official release. Well due to all the confusion of several months ago, I had downloaded and installed the DEV version. Now that I am running that as the sole version of the new Edge, I can report that indeed (as I believe Brian Vogal had already reported) the PDF issue is fixed in DEV version 83.X. I wanted to read my church directory which is a PDF document and it handled the document better than the Adobe Reader itself. I was able to do a search using the NVDA Insert + Control + F keystroke and it moved directly from page 1 to page 10 where the information I wanted was located. I was able to copy this information and paste it into an e-mail message in Thunderbird with no problem. This is really the best rendering of a complex PDF file with tables and links and such that I have ever seen before. -- They Ask Me If I'm Happy; I say Yes. They ask: "How Happy are You?" Audio themes and Speech history, are most important addons for me. I'm not updating to new releases untill they come.

I figured it out by eliminating ad ons and it just happened to be the first one in the list of ad ons called audio themes. Thanks for responding.

It is still available but a little tedious to me. I
had to hunt to find the edit field to type the word I was looking for. I was
hoping that definitions would have been in paragraph style rather than a table
with every word a link.

I used to use WordWeb, and had no problems with it and NVDA. This was several years ago, though, so I'm not sure how accessible it is (or even if it's still available) these days.

virtual machine software and nvda
Hi.
A lot of people have been talking about virtual machine software, and I have been having half a mind to broaden my mind on some more of it also to advise what needs extra addons etc. Firstly, vmware. I have used vmware a lot and have brought the workstation so I can do a load of extra vms from xp up since I am interested in it. While most things in player work, and the menus in workstation, the biggest thing is the fields. They speak when filled but not when you type content in them. Lists in workstation do not always read and there are probably a few unlabeled buttons. Due to the hypervisor guard not being compatible I will not be trying hyper v, but I am thinking about virtualbox and kemu, kemu because you can emulate dirfferent machines and virtualbox because its free and vmware does not always play nice with everything like some linux distributions.

Re: beeps

Hi Eilana, Are you using NVDA 2020.1 beta 1? If so, that will play a sound when an error is written to the log. Often NVDA will try something else and overcome whatever the error is so the end user won't notice, except in these pre-release versions (alpha and beta versions). If it is a sound increasing in pitch, then that is played while a progress bar loads. You can toggle that directly with NVDA+u, or from NVDA's object presentation settings (NVDA+control+o, then tab through). Otherwise, if it's an add-on, I'll leave it to others to advise. Kind regards Quentin.

Re: NVDA 2020 Beta Version
Quentin Christensen
Hi Brice, I'm not aware of anything which has changed in that regard. Just checking in Chrome 81 and Chrome 75 and NVDA 2020.1 beta 1 and it's announcing buttons and links for me. In the NVDA document formatting settings (NVDA+control+d) you can set which elements are listed, including links and buttons (they're a fair way down the list). Check those and make sure they haven't got unchecked somewhere along the line. Regards Quentin.

Bug reading tables in Microsoft Word with UI automation

Hello!
I'm having a bug with table handling in Microsoft Word, using UI Automation. When it finds blank cells NVDA pretends to leave the table. Does the same thing happen to anyone? Regards
