Yes, it is. I wrote what follows for a student using JAWS, but it's screen reader agnostic.
------------------------------------------------------------- Assigning a Title Row (Column Titles) and/or Title Column (Row Titles) in Excel You can assign column and row titles in Excel. These are nice because they always work with Excel and are saved to the workbook. There's no risk of losing a setting in your screen reader. To add column and row title names:
i. Open the Formula ribbon (ALT-M) ii. Activate the “Define Name” command (M) iii. Within the drop-down list, activate “Define Name” iv. The “New Name” dialog opens
Focus is placed in the name field. Within the name field, you can name the focused cell or selected range of cells. In this case, we’re naming the column or row title:
i. Start the range name with the label that tells Excel you’re creating a title range
ii. Add a name for the range. I stick on an underscore then either the name of the workbook if I intend to make the name assignment applicable across the workbook and not usable anywhere else (see step iii, scope) or just leave it without anything else if I want to use it on other worksheets in the workbook.
iii. Optional - Add the last cell in the range preceded by two periods
The next field in the dialog sets the scope for the name. this is a combo box. Use UP and DOWN ARROW to choose from between:
You can add a comment for the named cell or region, this is strictly for your personal reference and doesn’t affect the echo of the column or row title name The last field references the cell name or range of selected cells you’re naming. You can leave this field alone. Activate the OK button to save the name and close the dialog. Save the workbook and the titles are permanently saved and will work on any computer. If you have titles set to echo in JAWS, the titles will echo and you won’t lose the settings. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1903, Build 18362 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

Indicating header cells in Excel worksheet outside of NVDA
James Scholes
Hello all,
Quick question re: indicating the row or column header cells within an Excel worksheet. When using NVDA+Shift+R or NVDA+Shift+C, the information is stored in define name ranges, and can then be picked up by JAWS and possibly other screen readers. Is there a way for these ranges to be defined manually within Excel (or via a macro), by somebody not operating a screen reader at all? Regards, James Scholes |

What is in the shortcut field? If it is blank you can create one. If this is still not working I have one possible solution.

Herman, when you go to the NVDA icon on your desktop press alt+enter and tell me if your first two dialog boxes look like this:
Target "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVDA\nvda_slave.exe" launchNVDA -r

Hi,
as we are talking about alt+control+n to start NVDA: I'm using the latest Version of NVDA in connection with Windows 10. The hotkey alt+control+n is active so I'm told by Windows. But it doesn't work. Is it recommended to run NVDA as an administrator to correct this?

Hello Hermann,
-----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: nvda@nvda.groups.io [mailto:nvda@nvda.groups.io] Im Auftrag von Hermann-Josef Kurzen as we are talking about alt+control+n to start NVDA: I'm using the latest Version of NVDA in connection with Windows 10. The hotkey alt+control+n is active so I'm told by Windows. But it doesn't work. Is it recommended to run NVDA as an administrator to correct this? I had a similar issue last week when I tried to update NVDA fromm my normal user account. In my case NVDA froze when windows asked me for my admin password and I had to ask a co-worker to help me to log in and reinstall NVDA from my administrator account. Now, it starts again automatically at login and the shortcut works in both the admin and the user account. My suggestion for you would be to reinstall NVDA from your admin account. Kind regards, Bianka Brankovic |

NVDA\s touch gestures
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi guys
I am not a touch screen user with NVDA but wanted to know what gestures there were for NVDA from the user manual. I think I got them all.
I was curious as well does the add on for touch gestures for nvda have more gestures there? or let you do more with touch with NVDA.
Below is a list of what I came across in the user manual while wasting some time. Those who use touch might help if not written down all ready.

Josh, you may find it necessary to number them like:

kid3 mp3 tag editor
Josh Kennedy
Hi,
I am trying to edit the tags across multiple mp3 files with this mp3 tag editor.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/
I want to set it up so all the mp3 files play in order when I sync my iTunes library to my iPhone/iPod touch and to do that I have to modify the tags of each mp3. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong though because when I hit the tag1 button and it says from filename and then I save, go to tools, number tracks, hit ok, hit save. Then re-import into iTunes the files are still out of order. Has anyone used the above software with NVDA? What is the best way ;to make a folder full of mp3 files play in order from first to last? I have the files numbered 1 through 131. But this does not help.

mp3 tag editors
Josh Kennedy
Hi,
I found out the kid3 mp3 tag editor is free and is pretty accessible with NVDA. Do any of you know of any other free mp3 tag editors? It is the only way I can organize a folder full of files I have so they play in order from the first episode to the last episode in iTunes. Otherwise they sinc to my iPhone all out of order.

Re: How do I set up a keyboard short cut to start NVDA?

Hi ☺ You can set control plus alt plus n as the keyboard shortcut. I think this can be done by default when you first set up NVDA. It will ask you if you want to create a keyboard shortcut with control plus alt plus n, but you could probably assign a different keystroke.
