I don't know if you understand about RAM.  Are you talking about RAM, meaning memory used by your computer, or are you talking about available disk space.  Low Ram wouldn't cause your e-mail program not to function.  Low ram might cause your entire  computer to function slowly.  You may be able to solve the problem by compressing your inbox but how you do that depends on the program you are using.  How are you determining what is being used in terms of your four gigabytes figure?

well there is no error message. it just appears the inbox is taking forever to load. most likely due to the fact there is one gig of ram available. the other 3 gigabytes of ram are being used for who knows what. i open outlook and it says inbox brainardmolly@....  and then the machine is quiet. when i use the up and down arrow keys nvda doesn't talk. guess outlook is trying to retrieve the mail but it can't because of the ram.

Hi

When i asked the person about what I read using narrator to sign in first on the windows log on screen then turning on nvda they gave the following answer below.

From my perspective, as someone who manages computer desktops, having the ability to turn NVDA on at the Windows log on screen would be incredibly useful.  One of the reasons is that in our environment the computers are shared and are set up identically.
There are so many different scenarios on how a public computer is setup up and what functionality is locked down, including
·         Automatically logged in with “full desktop” including Windows Search & all programs start menu
·         Automatically logged in with “kiosk” mode EG might just have a web browser running full screen, no desktop no keyboard shortcuts
·         Windows logon required - then any of the above type of desktop or a hybrid of the two
·         And of course full desktop PCs versus terminals running windows remote desktop sessions, or Citrix sessions, on a server
Getting NVDA to work in the above environments shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for IT departments if they are given the mandate - which is what you are all about doing. Gene nz

or would NVDA have to have admin rights of which it may not  unless that box is checked ?

The reason I am asking this question is as follows

I was reading under a FAQ page  with both narrator and nvda installed on a network that on some certain systems you had to log into the windows log on screen with narrator then it would turn its self off then you could start up NVDA.

Is that because narrator would have some type of other privilege that nvda does not?

I asked the question to the person after I read it to the people involved.

But just wanted to find out from this side or if a shortcut could be assigned? It is on a public network so i am guessing it would be a security risk?

Windows 10 App Essentials 18.12.2 hotfix, plus some important announcements for 2019 releases #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 18.12.2 (stable) hotfix is now available. This hotfix resolves a problem in modern keyboard support where NVDA fails to announce things when emoji panel and/or cloud clipboard paste screen opens in Insider Preview build 18305. Also, 18.12.2 is the last stable release for 2018 and the last stable version to let you update this add-on via standalone update check mechanism provided by this add-on.

As always, the update can be found via:

  • Standalone update check: directly from this add-on.
  • Add-on Updater: check for add-on updates from NVDA menu/Tools.
  • Manual: addons.nvda-project.org under Windows 10 App Essentials entry/stable version link.

A few important announcements, most of them dealing with 2019 releases:

  1. Standalone update check feature from Windows 10 App Essentials will be disabled in upcoming 19.01 release; this feature will be removed completely in 19.02 in favor of Add-on Updater.
  2. Version 19.01.x will be the last stable release series to support Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Version 1709/build 16299); version 19.02 will require April 2018 Update (Version 1803/build 17134).
  3. In case you’re using development snapshots of this add-on, there is a snapshot for you as well. In addition to what’s included in today’s stable hotfix, it’ll be the last development build to support Fall Creators Update (a snapshot destined for northern winter solstice (December 21st) will require April 2018 Update). Speaking of winter solstice build, that one will be the last snapshot of 2018.
  4. Starting with today’s development snapshot, Add-on Updater will be required to update Windows 10 App Essentials development builds.

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Joseph

In any standard list, control selects everything in the list.  In a document, control a selects everything in the document.  in a standard edit field, even if it is only one line, control a selects everything.  At times, I use control a to select an e-mail address in the to line, then delete an e-mail address in a message I'm replying to.  Then I delete the address and put another there, if I want to change the recipient for some reason.

Hi.
Maybe I'm a bit late on this topic but just wanted to say that at least fake clipboard announcement, which is an add-on that I use most of the time, is working though the warning. For the moment all we need to do is check the box about this add-on and then it's alright. Let's hope that it doesn't change.

Yeah, mine does not make any noise either, but I disabled it, and do every time I am on windows anything. I'm the only one who uses the computer and if I don't recognize something I stop it anyway.

Lucky you. My windows does not play any sound when the UAC dialog appears. I don't know if previous versions of windows made such a sound, but my 8.1 and my win10 make no sound when the dialog shows up, it just blanks the screen, which I can see, because the scren goes dark, then after I press the alt-y (once or twice depending), then the screen gets light again, so that's the way I manage it. If I wait long enough, I believe it does speak the contents, but that takes so long, that by the time it starts talking, I could have been back to what I was doing already, so there's no point to wait for the speech.

begin to do something such as install something that is expected to cause
UAC to come up, that would, I would think, make things easier and faster.
If you hear the sound, you shouldn't have to do anything, whether your
screen-reader reads the dialog or not, except to issue the command alt y.  I
use NVDA on my Windows 7 machine as a portable program.  It can't read the
UAC command for technical reasons I won't go into here and don't completely
know.  But the sound plays every time.  I just answer alt y.

For what it's worth, I had to answer alt-y to the security dialog twice.
I don't know if it's because it didn't take the first time, or if it jut
needed two yes responses, but I suspect it's the first option, because
I've had that issue before.  I can't see much, but I can tell when the
security screen comes up, because it's dark, and the rest of my screens
are very light, so when it comes, I hit alt-y, and away it goes, but
perhaps I hit alt-y too early, so had to do it again, but that was the
only trouble I had installing NVDA 2018.4.  It was a bit slow at first,
until I closed VLC, after that, it rturned to normal response times.
Don't know if it's a result of it just being VLC, or if it was a result of
my having had that particular copy of VLC open for nearly a week on this
machine, and it was just being a resource hot at that point, but
regardless of the reason, it behaved normally after I closed it, so there
itis for what it's worth. I haven't tried reopening VLC just yet, as I'm
not ready to continue reading that particular book.

Hi Janet,

We'll need a bit more information to help you.  One of the most
common
reasons is that when you run the installer, it brings up a User
Account Control (UAC) dialog.  The dialog warns that the program
wants
to make changes to your PC and you must accept it to continue.
That's
a standard Windows warning when you install any software, but
occasionally it appears behind other windows.  If the program is
installing (the progress bar is beeping) but you haven't answered
that
dialog yet, try using ALT+TAB to find it (if it doesn't appear on
top
of everything, it often appears at the back, as in the last window
in
the list when you ALT+TAB).  If you don't respond to it within
about
20 seconds, it will close and the install will fail.

Kind regards

Quentin.

       Hello all, especially NVDA Support,

I’m having a problem with the latest update. It seemed to
download OK after I got the prompt, but it wouldn’t install. It
asked me to review the log view which I did, but it doesn’t make
any sense to me. I looked for the software in my download folder
to install it manually, but it wasn’t there. Any help with this
would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Jan
