Jarte reports in its menus that

Increase Indent Shift+Ctrl+I
Decrease Indent Shift+Ctrl+D

Don’t  know about shortcuts  in relation to your other queries but

Alt ollowed by O then   F opens the Font menu ready to change font.

Also

Alt followed by o, then P and finally L gets you to the line spacing formatting  dialogue, I think Pressing 1 or 2 or other  value also appears to work  as shortcuts here.

Hello members,

If you use the Jarte Word Processing program with NVDA, and know of an

existing list for keyboard commands to indent first line, fonts, and

set line spacing,

would you please email me the reference off group?

The info at the Jarte website seems to appeal to mouse users.

My email address is under my name; thanks!

Re: Can't run NVDA with admin rights on a MS Surface

Hi James,

You can't run NVDA, or can't install NVDA?  You do need admin access to install any software, but once it is installed you should be able to run it on a user account without admin priveledges

If you can't get admin access to install software, you can setup a portable copy of NVDA.  This works in much the same way as an installed version, with a couple of limitations.  For all the limitations, see https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#PortableAndTemporaryCopyRestrictions

When you run the NVDA setup file that you can download from https://www.nvaccess.org/download it presents a window with the license agreement.  Check the checkbox to agree to that, then there are three options - install NVDA, create portable copy, or continue running.

You can create a portable copy in a folder on your computer, or a memory stick.

Regards

Quentin.

Hi!
Chrome tends to try to be smart about more and more things, URL
sanitization probably being one of them. In other words, it's trying
not to intimidate you with a long cryptic letter sausage. If you go to
the address bar, however, you'll see it in full glory for copying.
Best,
Felix

But in the question that was posed, that won't work because you are still on the results page. If you followed the link and started the video playing, you could then copy the address from the address bar. I've never checked this but if an add is playing and you copy the address, I would expect it to be the same address. But test to be sure one time. Copy the address, then paste it into the address bar and press enter. After the ads play, does the correct video play?

The Group by setting can be reached in file explorer via ALT+V,G  [View Ribbon, Group By Item], then arrowing down through the current list until you get to the None entry and select it.   It couldn't be more simple.

Most of us will want some sort order, though, and generally by Name.  So afterward you may want to do an ALT+V,O and check to see what is currently being used as the sort column, which remains date, even if not used for grouping, unless you change it.

Re: reading from mouse pointer

Quentin Christensen

At a guess, have you used the "Make everything bigger" feature or high DPI or "Make text and other items easier to see" (I forget exactly what it was called in Windows 7) to enlarge the text and everything on screen?  While this usually works ok, some programs don't handle it properly, and the results can range from minor to unuseable.

The workaround is the same but in a slightly different place depending on your version of Windows.  I'll give you the Windows 10 steps here.  If you're using something else, you can try to follow these and look for similar options, or let me know what version of Windows and I'll sort out the right steps (if this is even the right solution):

Firstly, not that this solution will likely make everything in this program appear smaller.  The other option I can think of is to use Windows magnifier while in the program - press WINDOWS+PLUS to turn on the Windows magnifier, WINDOWS+PLUS again to increase magnification, and WINDOWS+MINUS to decrease magnification.  To turn magnification off altogether, press WINDOWS+ESCAPE.

1. Press WINDOWS+D to go to the desktop.
2. Locate the shortcut for En Mail.
3. Press ALT+ENTER to open the properties of the shortcut
4. Press CONTROL+TAB to move to the "Compatibility" page of the properties.
5. TAB to "Change High DPI Settings" and press ENTER
6. The checkbox "Use this setting to fix scaling problems..." should be selected.  Press SPACEBAR to check it.
7. TAB to "Override high DPI scaling behaviour" and press SPACEBAR to check that.
8. Press ENTER to save the settings and close the shortcut properties
9. Launch the program.

Mouse echo should now work, although as noted previously, everything is probably smaller and you may need to consider using Windows magnifier.

Quentin.

Debug Helper 1.0.1: new add-on released

Luke Davis

Hi All

I am announcing the release of the new Debug Helper NVDA add-on. This is an add-on which is intended to help people to work with the NVDA log. If you are trying to report problems with something you're doing, or writing an add-on, or trying to fix something, you may find it useful to be able to jump right to the spot in the log before or after the error occurred, or some important output happened.

At the press of a key (default: nvda+shift+F1), this add-on will insert a "mark line" in the NVDA log, which you can then search for in a text editor. Each mark line includes a sequential number, and can have 1 or more blank lines before/after it to aid in finding it quickly when fast-arrowing.

It works with older versions of NVDA (such as 2017.3), as well as future versions (such as 2019.3).

The add-on will hopefully be on the community site soon, but for now it can be downloaded here: https://github.com/XLTechie/debugHelper/releases/download/v1.0.1/debugHelper-1.0.1.nvda-addon

Full readme file, including more in-depth usage examples: https://github.com/XLTechie/debugHelper/blob/master/readme.md

This is a small add-on with a very specific set of use cases right now, but if you have ideas for ways it could be expanded, please contact me privately.

Luke

It's a known bug in Outlook.  The workaround that I'm aware of, is instead of using CONTROL+Y, if you press CONTROL+SHIFT+TAB to move to the list of folders, and arrow through that, it will report the unread count for each folder.

We have an open issue on our tracker for it, but I don't have a timeline for a fix: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/5068
