Re: New addon: Developer toolkit coming soon
Hello All,
I have approved this message because it relates directly to an NVDA add-on under development. That being said, working through the kinks and giving feedback for said add on belongs on the NVDA Developer Toolkit group that Andy Borka mentions in his message. For ease of joining for those who might be interested:
All discussion specific to this add-on, while under development and in alpha and early beta stage, belongs on that group. This topic is now locked. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

New addon: Developer toolkit coming soon
Andy B.
Hi,
I am an addon developer who is creating an addon that assists blind/visually impaired developers create appealing user interfaces without the help of sighted people. So far, the addon has been tested in Firefox and Chrome with success, and Windows 10 with limited success. At this time, I am rewriting the addon so it can be a global plugin. This means that it will work anywhere NVDA will work. The addon still has significant progress to make before it is production ready and considered stable. However, it is on the right track. If you want to get involved with Developer toolkit’s progress, feel free to visit the following links.
Repository: http://www.github.com/ajborka/nvda_developer_toolkit Latest release: https://github.com/ajborka/nvda_developer_toolkit/releases/tag/v0.4.0-beta Mailing list: http://www.groups.io/g/nvda-developer-toolkit
Thanks for your time and consideration… Andy Borka

Re: Nvda and Language Esperanto

Dear Ron & List: Yes, there are Esperanto clubs &^& practice opportunities live in many places of the world and others via Skype, Team Speak and other voice communication Apps.
As it always has been, a niche language primarily for persons who enjoy learning additional languages.
It is considered an Auxiliary language, I guess as opposed to one used generally.
Someone even publishes a daily newspaper in Esperanto, possibly some magazines too.
It is like being a Latin scholar if you are Roman Catholic. You can correspond and telephone church officials in the Vatican. They generally appreciate you taking the time & effort to send well written Latin correspondence.
Friend of mine received a reply from the Curia in the Vatican congratulating him on his facility in Latin.
Together with Greek, it is a good thing for medical professionals to know. Brian K. Lingard

It looks like he's talking about instructions to use NVDA. And if I'm not mistaken Francis is asking for 1on1 help with, learning how to use NVDA in general, And configure programs like acrobat reader for accessibility. Plus learning how too use the mentioned programs with NVDA in specific. And what I've understood from the post is he's having great difficulty with writing e-mails do to his condition as well, I think dictation would be the way to go in that case. And I believe the best way to help him is to find a volunteer to start training him if available.

Hi all! I use the Emoticons NVDA add-on all the time! It is so much easier to just press: Caps lock+I and down arrow through the smiles, than it is to use the Windows 10 Emoji panel! I still can not access that very well, and I constantly use the NVDA add-on! It is my third favorite add-on behind Windows 10 App Essentials, and Golden Cursor LOL! Please keep that add-on! Thanks guys for everything. David Moore

Re: Reading PDF Files with NVDA - How to?
Arlene,
Windows 10 (and maybe 8.1, I can't recall) assigns Edge as the default app for PDF files. If you wish for PDFs to be opened by something else, like Adobe Reader DC or another PDF reader of your choosing that's already installed on your system: 1. Open Settings, Apps, Default Apps Pane 2. Navigate to the Choose default apps by file type link then activate it. 3. When the Choose default apps by file type dialog opens, get yourself to the entry for PDF (which may take a while, as I have not found any quick and easy way to get through the list - someone else may be able to jump in with the way to quickly navigate here). Your default app will show as Edge, and that is a button, so activate it. 4. You will be presented with the Choose an app pop-up, and you can TAB through the apps presented until you find your PDF reader of choice. Hit Enter to select it. 5. ALT+F4 to close the Choose default apps by file type dialog. At this point when you have a PDF file that needs to be opened it should open in your chosen PDF reader rather than Edge. For earlier versions of Windows this is accomplished similarly, but via Control Panel, Default Programs, Associate a file type or protocol with a program link. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 The color of truth is grey. ~ André Gide

Alexandre, Have you got a file you can share? I just tried a couple of files with tables and they read fine in Adobe Reader DC (19.012.20035) and NVDA 2019.2 beta 2.

Re: Reading PDF Files with NVDA - How to?
Quentin Christensen
Ok there's a few issues there. Let's see what I can help with: Re reading the group emails and instructions - do you mean you can read the emails fine, you just can't follow the instructions? (If so, please let us know which specific ones if the rest of this doesn't help). Firefox has a built-in PDF viewer, but it isn't as accessible as Adobe Reader. In Firefox press ALT+T then O to go to the options. TAB down to "Search file types or applications", type PDF and press ENTER. Then press TAB once to the list of file types and PDF. Tab again to "Preview in Firefox" and down arrow to "Use Adobe Reader DC". PDF files you open from web pages should now open in Adobe reader. You should be able to read PDF files in Adobe reader by either using NVDA's reading commands (eg say all with NVDA+down arrow or NVDA+A) or arrows etc. If the file won't read at all, it's likely it is made as an image of text. In that case you can try using NVDA's OCR function to read it - press NVDA+R to recognise, then use the reading commands. If it is an image of text, however, it is worth writing to the original author to advise them that it is not accessible, as OCR does have its limiations. I haven't tried Atlantis lately, so I can't comment on how well it works. If it isn't accessible (and I'll leave it to others to offer more wisdom on that), then you might consider Jarte as a word processor which is not Word, or Libre Office. Kind regards Quentin.
