I would not have thought so, but its not the first time I've seen this reported here.
I'll leave it to the windows 10 experts to decode, but it might be due to a particular version of windows 10.

Re: Release Candidate 2 for NVDA 2018.4 is available

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

When you say this version, do you mean as against the last stable version of nvda, if you do then.
Highlights of this release include performance improvements in recent Mozilla Firefox versions, announcement of emojis with all synthesizers, reporting of replied/forwarded status in Outlook, reporting the distance of the cursor to the edge of a Microsoft Word page, and many bug fixes.
New Features
• New braille tables: Chinese (China, Mandarin) grade 1 and grade 2. (#5553)
• Replied / Forwarded status is now reported on mail items in the Microsoft Outlook message list. (#6911)
• NVDA is now able to read descriptions for emoji as well as other characters that are part of the Unicode Common Locale Data Repository. (#6523)
• In Microsoft Word, the cursor's distance from the top and left edges of the page can be reported by pressing NVDA+numpadDelete. (#1939)
• In Google Sheets with braille mode enabled, NVDA no longer announces 'selected' on every cell when moving focus between cells. (#8879)
• Added support for Foxit Reader and Foxit Phantom PDF. (#8944)
• Added support for the DBeaver database tool. (#8905)
Changes
• "Report help balloons" in the Object Presentations dialog has been renamed to "Report notifications" to include reporting of toast notifications in Windows 8 and later. (#5789)
• In NVDA's keyboard settings, the checkboxes to enable or disable NVDA modifier keys are now displayed in a list rather than as separate checkboxes.
• NVDA will no longer present redundant information when reading clock system tray on some versions of Windows. (#4364)
• Updated liblouis braille translator to version 3.7.0. (#8697)
• Updated eSpeak-NG to commit 919f3240cbb.
Bug Fixes
• In Outlook 2016/365, the category and flag status are reported for messages. (#8603)
• When NVDA is set to languages such as Kirgyz, Mongolian or Macedonian, it no longer shows a dialog on start-up warning that the language is not supported by the Operating System. (#8064)
• Moving the mouse to the navigator object will now much more accurately move the mouse to the browse mode position in Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Acrobat Reader DC. (#6460)
• Interacting with combo boxes on the web in Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer has been improved. (#8664)
• If running on the Japanese version of Windows XP or Vista, NVDA now displays OS version requirements message as expected. (#8771)
• Performance improvements when navigating large pages with lots of dynamic changes in Mozilla Firefox. (#8678)
• Braille no longer shows font attributes if they have been disabled in Document Formatting settings. (#7615)
• NVDA no longer fails to track focus in File Explorer and other applications using UI Automation when another app is busy (such as batch processing audio). (#7345)
• In ARIA menus on the web, the Escape key will now be passed through to the menu and no longer turn off focus mode unconditionally. (#3215)
• In the new Gmail web interface, when using quick navigation inside messages while reading them, the entire body of the message is no longer reported after the element to which you just navigated. (#8887)
• After updating NVDA, Browsers such as Firefox and google Chrome should no longer crash, and browse mode should continue to correctly reflect updates to any currently loaded documents. (#7641)
• NVDA no longer reports clickable multiple times in a row when navigating clickable content in Browse Mode. (#7430)
• Gestures performed on baum Vario 40 braille displays will no longer fail to execute. (#8894)
• In Google Slides with Mozilla Firefox, NVDA no longer reports selected text on every control with focus. (#8964)
Changes for Developers
• gui.nvdaControls now contains two classes to create accessible lists with check boxes. (#7325)
◦ CustomCheckListBox is an accessible subclass of wx.CheckListBox.
◦ AutoWidthColumnCheckListCtrl adds accessible check boxes to an AutoWidthColumnListCtrl, which itself is based on wx.ListCtrl.
• If you need to make a wx widget accessible which isn't already, it is possible to do so by using an instance of gui.accPropServer.IAccPropServer_impl. (#7491)
◦ See the implementation of gui.nvdaControls.ListCtrlAccPropServer for more info.
• Updated configobj to 5.1.0dev commit 5b5de48a. (#4470)
• The config.post_configProfileSwitch action now takes the optional prevConf keyword argument, allowing handlers to take action based on differences between configuration before and after the profile switch. (#8758)

I think you need to visit the change log on the snapshots web site if you want to look at RC1 against RC2.

Re: Audio Issues

Brian's Mail list account <bglists@...>

There most certainly is. Often drivers chop the start and end of sound due to latency in the code that trips on and off the audio. You mainly seem to find this on laptops for some reason.
As for the difference in which sounds come from where. This too is often drivers not looking at the sound output selection flags correctly. Its very hard to give a definitive answer to this on, but I found that one particular audio stream was using the windows sound mapper while the others were using the bespoke mapper for whichever sound card or whatever the driver had. Sometimes these can be changed independently. I've noticed that some sappi voices sound very rough through the sound mapper but a lot cleaner through the realtech or the Behringer that I have but as to quite why.

My brain hurts!

Not much help I know, but such is the way of things in driver land.
I do not think Microsoft test third party drivers correctly for use with screenreaders personally.

Subject: [nvda] Audio Issues

Dear Friends,

May I ask for your input on this, once again. I am running Windows 10 and have two audio options: a Realtek sound card and a Logitech wireless headset (not Bluetooth). Under the NVDA speech settings, when I choose one of these, the output is through the other one. I want the Logitech wireless headset, but have to choose Realtek to get it. However, the NVDA sounds do not have the same good voice quality as when I used to set it to come through the Logitech option. Especially, the initial sound in each word is often cut off. Selecting the Realtek option, NVDA sounds come through the Logitech headset, but system sounds come through the computer speakers.

When I raised these issues three weeks ago, several of you suggested this would be a driver problem. I checked the settings and drivers, together with my sighted wife and we found no irregularity. I had another person, who is more computer savvy, look at this and he, too, said that there was no evidence of errors with either the Realtek driver or the Logitech driver.

Is it possible to have a driver problem, even though there is no error alert?

Any other suggestions?

Warmly,
Ralph

Make a temp copy on the drive and when asked say yes to use the normal already set up version and all its settings add ons etc.
Once you have this you can reverse the process and install it on another computer.
Brian
PS, this of course assumes you are not using an xp machine to transfer it to from a later version of windows, though inverse of this is fine, but you will need to update the add ons and the version of nvda afterwards.

I'm sure the system used to be able to convert before you hit the button to commit. Has it too changed in Paypal just like the cryptic number on bank statements rather than the normal nvaccess did? It all seemed to alter when Paypal put up its conversion charges and changed its terms and conditions somewhere back in May.

Hi Sile,

Firstly, thank you for your interest in donating or purchasing the training
materials, we really appreciate it!

My apologies for the problems you had. Everything on the site is listed in
Australian dollars since we are based in Australia so any donation or
payment needs to convert to Australian dollars at some point. Paypal does
this automatically when you purchase or donate. You can find out before
then roughly how much it will be by doing a search in Google (or your
favourite search engine) for something like "convert 30 aud to usd" or
"convert $30 australian to us", etc. (According to Googlle, $30 AUD =
roughly $21.68 USD currently).

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: ccleaner new version

The real pitty with the ccleaner program bar the interfaces and settings issues is that if there was a way to run the engine without it being bogged down by the size of its ini file or in fact now many entries it has even if it has to use a bit more power for it on newer systems, or can be customised to whatever, it could leave disk cleaner in fact any cleaning solution for dead.

On 12/14/2018 4:03 PM, Richard Wells wrote:
Shaun: I got both of them just fine and I will be checking this out. Thank you for your work.

On 12/13/2018 8:01 PM, Shaun Everiss wrote:

Its always been that way.

the ccleaner dropbox link for the ini version is at.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kbbbqs8blbyuev9/ccleaner.ini?dl=1

Well advantages are bug fixes mainly.

To be honest though if you don't actually care, versions of ccleaner 3.00-3.31 are probably safe versions.

3.1 versions are fine, 3.2 versions are ok and 3.3 versions excluding 3.33, 3.34 and3.35 as one ofthose was hacked.

Sadly, 3.4 is where the avast stuff comes into it, in fact any version of ccleaner before avast got piriform is fine.

After that, if you can get the last version from 2017, then thats fine.

I like disk cleanup but to be honest, I don't need to use it all the time, disk cleanup's advantage is it clears a lot of things, its major drawback is its really slow especially on hard drives and slower processers with little memmory to speak of.

CCleaner cleans the most commen junk things, mainly temp and temp internet files.

Its disadvantage or rather main disadvantage is that if the ini file gets big enough it will slow down a load but it could actually potentially clean more than disk cleanup as you could clean vertually anything.

Right now, the following extra disadvantages exist.

1.  quickclean, it appears that to turn this on and off is basically impossible from settings and if you do it manually in the ini, every time it runs and checks for updates it will toggle things back on.

2.  avast is in the installer, and other unwanted stuff, as well as this, due to it running monitering and other things at startup the installer is not trustable pluss the main interface is not accessable checkbox wize.

However, in most cases I don't often run disk cleanup for every day use, I have not tried to use windows storage sence and maybe thats fine but I like to have some control but whatever you want.

On 12/14/2018 7:14 AM, Roger Stewart wrote:
Can you please give the link for the latest portable version and the latest .ini file?  Sad to report the link you gave for the direct portable version download has switched to the main installer for cCleaner and the portable version doesn't even show on that page now. I've deleted that old link so we will all need a new one. Anyhow, what is the advantage of using the latest and greatest version anyhow?  I ran the old one I have and it seemed to work just fine here.  I also find that the built in disk cleanup utility can free many times the space as CCleaner but it will still get some things the disk cleanup can't get so I need to use both of them. CCleaner removed just over a half GB of junk while the disk cleanup got rid of a bit over 9 GB of unnecessary stuff!

Roger

Totally agree with Richard Wells. For now, vocalizer from Tiflotecnia works well with NVDA and their customer service is excellent. The team always assists me whenever I faced any problems, like the last case I posted in the list, I contacted the team off list, and they help me until the problem is solved.

Yes Molly, NVDA addons are like Jaws scripts. You add them as you see fit.

Hey guys, Molly here again.

I was just wondering, is an NVDA add on the equivalent of jaws
scripts? I realize that add ons enhance the functionality of NVDA.
Isn't that similar to Jaws scripting? Or am I way off base here?

Thanks.
