Edge is quite different from IE. You don’t have menus or menu bars like you do in browsers like IE and firefox.

Part of the problem is that Internet Explorer is essentially dead, & Edge is still pretty iffy regarding accessibility.
Would your friend be willing to try Firefox or Chrome? I myself personally like Firefox, but that's just moi. The truth is that the commands from browser to browser used to differ for screen reader users, thus resulting in having to learn new commands for each browser you wished to use, but screenreaders have standardized a good bit over the past few years, so that's no longer a consideration, in case that's a fear of his.
Could you perhaps also please consider providing a link to the page he's having trouble with, Curtis?

Re: problem with NVDA screen reader
hurrikennyandopo ...
hi
If you do want to try out edge the microsoft edge dev desk top version seems to work very nice.
the app version works ok but now with this new version i would use that .
The link to this version is https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/?form=MO12FO&OCID=MO12FO It is chromium based and is almost like chrome its self in the lay out.
If you used chrome before you would know what i mean.
Hopefully before long i got a basic tutorial going up for it this weekend to the web site. Plus it will make it a lot easier for some one to locate it and take it for a test drive if you get what i mean.

I already explained yesterday how to go back in a way that has a good chance of working well and will save a lot of diagnostics that may or may not accomplish anything. Use shift enter when following a link. the link will open in a new window. Use alt f4 to close the window. You will be back exactly where you were on the other page on the link you followed.
I should add that it may be that you will have an inconvenience doing this. You'll have to see. I haven't tried it enough to know if it is a general problem or just an annoyance on one very old machine I have. You may see the original page in the new window and you may need to alt tab then release alt tab and then alt tab again to get to the proper window.

Re: Google Chrome and NVDA
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi
have you got it to open in tabs or windows?
i think the default is tabs in google chrome.
if you are using tabs or not sure do the following use the CTRL + 1 to 9.
For example if there are only 3 tabs you would use from CTRL + 1 to 3.
I think on mine if i remember right i set a home page and made that one default and it allows me to use the alt key + left arrow key to go back a page or the opposite if i have already been to that page just before. It says some thing like open in a new page and the web address is put in.
Plus i can also use the CTRL key + 1 to 9 if needed.

OK, and now this topic is locked. As was previously noted, NVDA itself does not run under Linux. The synth under discussion, then, cannot be used with NVDA. The two topics are entirely disjoint.
If further discussion with members of the NVDA group is desired, then please take it to the Chat Subgroup:

Hello, From what I know, WSL allows you to use NVDA because Linux runs in the shell. Voxin is not required. If someone is talking about running NVDA from within Linux, I believe that this is beyond the scope of this list because this is not something supported by NVAccess, and most users on this list run Windows, not Linux. thanks.

The explanation about why people is talking about Voxin here is because you can run it under windows 10 using WSL. See David's post on the list about ibmtts. mk.

As this thread doesn't seem to have anything to do with NVDA, let's kindly bring it to a close. If I am wrong, then please very quickly bring this topic back in line with discussing NVDA. Running NVDA under Linux is beyond the scope of this list, and NVDA is not supported on any platform other than Windows. Thanks.

Re: Google Chrome and NVDA
It is also worth noting that if you are using NVDA Add-Ons, Chrome Extensions, or both you need to do the following:
1. Start NVDA normally, Chrome with extensions disabled - Check if issue continues. If no, start by disabling all of your Chrome extensions and re-enabling them one by one until the problem recurs. If yes, Chrome extensions are not the culprit. 2. Start NVDA with Add-Ons disabled, Chrome normally. Same basic logical procedure as for Chrome, but from the NVDA side. 3. Start NVDA with Add-ons disabled and Chrome with Extensions disabled. You'd only get to this if you didn't find the culprit so far, and if the issue still exists or not it's time to file a bug report. If the issue still exists then it's some interaction issue between "naked" Chrome and NVDA. If the issue doesn't exist, then it's an issue in the interaction between an NVDA Add-On and Chrome Extension. Report all of each that you're using on each side. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell. ~ Edward Abbey
