I use skype for business at work.
I am not a big fan of chat in general so I used the settings to have
unread chats show up in my exchange mail account.

I can use chat with NVDA, it requires some object navigation in the
chat pane instead of just arrow/tab navigation. Once in the chat pane
use the object nav read by line and line navigation (num pad in
desktop layout).

FWIW my employer uses office 365 so our install is newer than 2015.

Hi,

Hmmm, based on the brief conversation we had, it could be either:

  1. The executable name has changed somehow.
  2. NVDA is not detecting the sound window.

 

Resolving this will require looking at the debug log and/or a remote troubleshooting method (via Remote add-on and Skype). Can you try the following for me:

  1. Close GoldWave.
  2. Restart NVDA with debug logging enabled (but after GoldWave is fully closed).
  3. Start GoldWave.
  4. Open a file in GoldWave.
  5. Open NVDA log viewer (NVDA+F1).
  6. Once log viewer opens, copy and paste all text you see in log viewer as a reply – either to this list or privately.
  7. After sending a reply, restart NVDA.

Foundation fighting blindness is doing essentially that.  Fighting blindness.  They have no interest in improving quality of life for blind people and they make me seriously angry.  They do good research in vision health and they make money exploiting blind people doing so.  A win win for them.

NFB ocasionally funds a project.  AFB, CNIB and other agencies sometimes fund things, but primarily with an eye towards direct sales for recovering investment.  Some of the most interesting stuff on the market right now such as sunu, dotwatch and brailleme don't say where their funding came from, but I suspect the sources are as diverse as the companies and products.

The nfb keeps a log of misbegotten technologies built to help the blind.  White canes that deliver electric shock,  wayfinding devices that clap loudly so blind people can walk towards a sound.  That sort of nonsense.

So much of the stuff that gets built to help us gets nearly to production before any one asks whether it would be useful to the blind.  A world wide funding agency for blindness technology research could be either a godsend if it is run by the blind and keeps out the sensation mongers, or an atrocity if it uses fear of blindness to raise money and throws dollars at every shambling frankenstein cooked up in the basement of every dgooder who wants to help the blind but doesn't really want anything to do with blindness or blind people.

I strongly believe that this isn't something you just make an on/off judgment about.  (It may be better to use one search engine for some purposes and another for others.  Google tailors search results to your interests so you may see articles reflecting your political point of view much more in the first many results, perhaps enough that you will miss variety you should be aware of.  Tailoring results in this way, encouraging entrapment in your own view is not a service and should be eliminated.  If Startpage doesn't do that, that's very good and a good reason to use it where such selection of results matters.  But Google has other advantages that are important and one that is especially important to blind users.
 
I doubt that other search engines have the cache feature Google has.  I just checked Startpage and it doesn't.  With google, some sites aren't cached because they can request not to be.  but this feature is far more useful than most, perhaps almost anyone, realizes.  And it is particularly useful for blind people for the following reason:
 
first, caching lets you see a page when the site is temporarily not available for some reason.  But more than that, and of particular interest to blind users, if a PDF or some other format comes up in the results, such as  a PDF article, if you use the cached version, you get the pdf shown as a web page, in HTML, converted by Google.  You don't have to do anything in terms of working with a browser plugin or converting it yourself.
 
And I noticed when I was comparing that Google has a similar link for each result.  Startpage doesn't.  In short, it may be that results are the same or similar, when you are just looking at results, but caching isn't there and similar isn't there and they may be important at times, especially caching.  I once was able to read an article in a format nothing on my machine handled.
 
Also, it isn't defeatist at all.  As I said, I don't search when signed into my account, which makes matching me with my searches harder.  I don't believe in tilting at windmills for no benefit.  After the Equifax data breach in The United States, and, if you follow technology news somewhat, you see that data breaches occur once or twice a week a lot of the time, I'm supposed to worry about whether advertising data collectors know that I bought a certain brand of shoes or looked at a certain book online and send me customized advertising?  I use the tools that serve me best if there is no meaningful reason not to. 
 
And how many people use Facebook who don't use Google?

You didn't get malware from Google and Google may have features the search
engine you are using doesn't have.  You may have gotten malware by following
a link in a search but that can happen with any search result from any
search engine.  The site itself may be fine but the third party advertising
on the site may be hacked.  It's a serious enough problem that it has been
reported on by national media.

I don't search when signed into my Google account, which makes it much
harder for google to know who is searching.  but aside from that precaution,
with all the unending security breaches and all the other ways of collection
information, do you use a smart phone?  Do you use loyalty cards at stores?
Do you use Facebook?  then why worry about doing Google searches?

I don't think here is appropriate for this thread, but I do notice that we really need a world wide system, at present it seems that there are national organisations but with few teeth. The big problem at the moment is white goods not being accessible.

processors, are the same in speed and stability?

I think the significance of version 48 is that it is the last version that
supports AMD old style processors that do not have the sse2 instruction set

as standard, so after that firefox cannot be run.

also, firefox 48 supports multiprocess.
does it mean that firefox 48 also is not good for me?
to disable multiprocess in every version of firefox, in the address bar,
type
about:config
accept the warning message.
in the search bar, type
browser.tabs.remote.autostart
or peist it and press tab to find it.
press enter on it to make it false, if its value is true.

thanks brian for your great advice for me to use firefox 45.
its more fast, reliable and needs less system resources in compare to
firefox 52 i believe.
my laptop processor is intel, but i am really not satisfied of newer
versions of firefox.
one computer engineer told me that i can change user agent in mozilla
firefox.
i tested one time, and it did not mention again that my firefox is old
and i should update it!
but unfortunately my problems and not working github is not resolved
for
me.
only it could prevents the message for updating firefox.

i found how to change user agent in different browsers by searching
google.

i used firefox 52.9 and tor version 7.5.6 which is based on this
version of firefox also.
however, i remembered that brian always mentioned that firefox 52 is

supports NVDA 2017.3 and later in consideration for people using Windows

* NVDA 2019.1 and later
* GoldWave 6
* Windows 7 SP1 and later, 64-bit



For people who are not using the combination specified above, GoldWave
add-on 19.04 will be the last version. The following groups of people will
be affected:



1. Anyone using Windows XP, Vista or 7 without service pack 1
2. Anyone using GoldWave 5.x
3. Anyone using NVDA releases earlier than 2019.1 (technically, 2018.4
will work; see below)



Reason for requiring NVDA 2019.1 (or for that matter, 2018.4) and later:
NVDA 2018.4 introduces a much improved way to assign multiple commands to a
script (specifically, via scriptHandler.script decorator). For GoldWave
add-on, this eases assigning GoldWave native commands to routines performed
by NVDA.



Python 3 compatibility notice (for reference purposes): GoldWave add-on is
compatible with a future Python 3 version of NVDA.

Jeffrey, visual studio code is meant to, specifically, have taken accessibility into account - see the following page, and, they, among other things, specifically refer to keyboard navigation, etc.:

But, honestly, as a full-time web developer myself, I just work with programmer's text editors, etc., and, haven't bothered with an IDE for quite a while.

If you're talking about the situation where you move to the next page, and it keeps saying the last line of the former page:
I've been seeing this in Open Office for a while now. I've not found any solution that is satisfactory, except the normal resolution to any NVDA out-of-sync with screen contents issue: maximize or restore the window via alt-space.

Open Office has several of these, most common when deleting selected text, but recently also with changing pages.
