Before anything else, have you exited NVDA, then run NVDA again?  If that didn't solve the problem, did you reboot?

Quentin, it is a compatibility question, but not with NVDA...

It is a matter of compatibility with Thunderbird last versions...

I suspect Dave G's latest question, and the one I'm about to ask, are one and the same and probably all revolve around a combination of Level and Preserve.

I am going to use the standard NVDA term, tick, for the single quote or apostrophe when referring to initial states.  I decided to play with the in-word tick and the tick that stands by itself, and wanted the former to be pronounced as apostrophe and the latter to be pronounced as single quote.

I edited the entries in the symbol list in the dialog such that I thought this should happen, but what I'm getting is "single quote" even when reading character by character in a word such as "don't."  Essentially, the only change for tick that is honored is an across the board replacement of single quote, regardless of exactly where that tick occurs.  I would have expected "apostrophe" to be announced when going character by character through don't, but single quote to be announced for something like, 'I saw you!."   And for something like, 'I'm here,' I'd expect the following: Single quote I apostrophe M space H E R E comma single quote.

I'm not getting that.  What's the magic combination of level and preservation for the in-word tick that I'd need to use to get it to consistently announce as apostrophe when reviewing characters?

Re: NVDA and latest Thunderbird

Sadly I have noticed a few addons have never made it to automatics, tony's enhancements is still at v 13, the latest windows apps and addon updater that joseph said were cued for distribution never appeared.

Mozilla apps enhancements have not made it to the updater or the addons site either.

So you either update these manually from github sources by looking for them on google or you just use old versions.

In all case you have to disable updater on updating these back to the old versions which really starts to invalidate the updater system.

Is there any way we can get addons submitted faster to update especially if they are existing addons.

Brian,

This phantom window - is that just an issue with NVDA, or do you mean it happens with installing / updating any software?

If any software, then it's likely to be something in Windows or at least beyond NVDA.  If it's strictly NVDA, could you please send me a copy of your log (ideally at debug and with no add-ons running).  Does it just happen at the time you update NVDA, or in normal use after that?

Re: NVDA and latest Thunderbird

I got this from a message Javi Dominguez sent.

Hello.

I've just released the update of the addonMozilla Apps Enhancements 1.17

New in this version:

* Fixed what was broken with the Thunderbird 102.0 update
* Again correctly reads message headers.
* Gestures for reading headers have been modified; now control+shift+1-9 reads the sender and recipients and control+shift+0 reads the subject.
* Now correctly reads the status bar.
* Message reading in the preview pane has been improved and automatic reading has been implemented. Now when selecting a message in the list its content will be read without having to press anything else (as long as the preview panel is activated [F8]). This feature can be turned on or off in NVDA Preferences > Options > Mozilla Thunderbird or by using a gesture (not assigned by default).
* Some performance improvements and minor bug fixes.

You haven't accidentally hit "Scroll lock" have you?  With scroll lock enabled, when you press the arrow keys, the document scrolls visually, however the caret or focus does not move.  It's a bit like the review cursor for sighted people :)

If that's what you've got going on - press scroll lock again to disable it.

I don't think it breaks first letter navigation. I believe it was
removed because now you are supposed to use a search feature to find
names in the addressbook; I use autocomplete but that is my
recollection from the very little I played with the address book in 102.x.

one that has issues that came up on the list a while back?

Thanks

Yes I saw that, and it was until the latest update when the splash screen and some of the new menus seem to have gone a little bad again.
Perhaps somebody should have tested it. I use the free version so do not need the driver update and the other bits to work, but the operation of the demo is not so straightforward now, as they seem to have got the tab order and menu texts a bit confused.

That was literally copied off the CCleaner download page, and, just
found it promising that they specifically included that on the page itself:

Yes, I did get that, I think. I'll try it again, but I'm pretty sure I did, because it is expected. I also got the thing warning me that some add on I had is not compatible, but I accepted that too, that the add on would be disabled. First time this happened in all my nvda downloads.

Hi Mary,

Did you get the user account control dialog warning you that NVDA wanted to make changes to your PC?  It's the same one you get every time you install / update software, but every now and then it appears behind everything else and doesn't get focus - but if you don't accept it within about 20 seconds, the install fails.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi everyone,

Version 2022.2.1 of NVDA, the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, is now available for download. This is a security update which fixes one security issue present in older versions of NVDA. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version.
