Yeah, the playlist editor is so nice and the main reason I still keep it
around. Even though it doesn't quite work as well on my win 10 machine and I
find I have to use the enclu/context menu options a lot more, I can still
create a playlist quickly this way.

Hi.

Its not officially on their website or in fact twitter, but free-codecs
has published a page on winamp 5.8 beta, indicating that v6 will be out
later this year.

I don't know how these guys get the information before others do and
while I havn't downloaded this version since its not official as such its
worth mentioning anyway.

Still use Winamp without any problems and love using Window-eyes with it,
find it valuable to have the rate spoken while I change the output volume. I
find making playlists on the fly with Winamp easier than anything I've ever
done. Love it, very powerful. Will keep using it until it crashes and will
upgrade if another version comes down the pike.

Hi,

Correction: for SPL Studio, version should be 18.09.2-lts.

Subject: [nvda] StationPlaylist STudio and Windows 10 App Essentials 18.09.2 released, a note about update channels #AddonRelease

Hi all,

StationPlaylist Studio and Windows 10 App Essentials 18.09.2 is now available. Both versions come with mitigations for update channel selection:

  • StationPlaylist Studio 18.09.9: this is the update channel locking update. If you are using 18.09.1 and prefer to stay on stable builds, please do NOT install 18.09.2, as the update channel will be switched to longterm after installing it.
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: a bug regarding update checks reported by a user should be no more (more on that below).

Regarding Windows 10 App Essentials: the bug in question may have been caused by the fact that users might be running really old pilot snapshots (subsequently confirmed by me). I did say numerous times that update checks from old pilot builds will end in September, but apparently this warning was missed by a few. I’ll say it again (and one last time): no more pilot snapshot builds (unless things change later in future). Thus if you find that update check isn’t working for you from the add--on itself, check which add-on version you’ve got, and if you have a pilot snapshot, switch to stable channel for now.

Speaking of channels and update checks: the above notice does not apply if you are using Add-on Updater to check for Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshots. This capability will be extended to everyone on Thursday, including for those on stable channel.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Urgent! Rolling back an update or obtaining the older installation file?

Gene

it's evidently the same problem that has been discussed today that seems to occur when running a 32 bit virsion of Firefox with the latest NVDA.  This illustrates why I either don't think people should use an updator when updating a screen-reader or that if they do, they should take the precaution I discuss below.  I would say to get the installation file and try it as a portable version first or, to always have the previous installation file so that, if you use the updator, you can uninstall the new version and reinstall the previous version if desirable.

At this point, you may need to use Narrator to download an older version of NVDA.  If you need to know any Narrator commands, others can tell you the ones you need.

Hello,

From the description, those problems don't seem to be caused by NVDA. I installed the update a few hours ago, it works perfectly.

I still have older versions on my computer, feel free to write me directly and we take it from there.

It must be really annoying to be unable to browse the Internet, no doubt about that!

Hi Manish,

In Windows Text-to-speech settings (start typing text to speech settings in the start menu) there is a slider for "speed".  Move that further to the right to increase the speech rate.  Note that this setting as well as NVDA's speech rate together both affect how fast the voice talks, so the fastest speed would be both at max.

Has anyone else noticed this and figured out a way around this?

Urgent! Rolling back an update or obtaining the older installation file?

ann

-Hi folks,

This is the first time I have been utterly disappointed with an NVDA update. Is there a way to roll back an NVDA update to the earlier version? I cannot use Firefox at all with the newest NVDA, and this is totally unacceptable.  It won't even work with Internet Explorer. I thought I Had an old version of the screen reader installed saved, but apparently not or I have lost it with my recent computer troubles.

In fact, if someone could send me the install file for 2018.2, I'd appreciate it, since it appears I can no longer browse the internet at all. With neither of my browsers working with this new version, I can't even download chrome.

Thanks,

~Ann

To change to receiving mail as a digest, there are two options.  I don't know what the differences are.  Here is the information from the Groups.io documentation.
To switch to receiving plain digests, send a message to:
nvda+digest@nvda.groups.io
To receive full featured digests, send a message to:
nvda+fulldigest@nvda.groups.io
If you want to go back to receiving mail as individual messages use the following command:

Hi Zahra,

I'm using 64-bit Firefox currently (as I always have) and haven't had any problems with it (aside from the ones everyone had back when Firefox quantum first came out).  I'm using Windows 10 insider builds though so there might be something different.

Either way, if you can get your contact to go to "about:crashes" and copy the report ID into a message to me (ideally with a bit of context about what the user was doing when it crashed and which version of NVDA etc), I can pass it on to Mozilla.

Regards

Quentin.

Re: serious problem with nvda 2018.3 with firefox

It might also be a good idea to run Firefox w/addons disabled (if
instructions are required on that, please let me know). The easiest
way is to find your ff shortcut on the desktop & use shift-enter, &
acknowledge you wish to run FF in safe mode. But if you don't have a
desktop shortcut, there are other ways--just ask.

I also think those who are having problems w/web browsers might wish
to seriously consider the possibility of malware on their machines.

I saw the update come across late last night, but I haven't installed
it yet. I'll report when I do, for whatever my little 2 cents is
worth.

Ahra,

It appears that most of the people having problems with NVDA and newer
Firefox versions are running a 32bit version of Firefox. So, you do fit in
that category. However, I don't believe you mentioned the version of Windows
you are running and that can make a significant difference. Please also let
us know if Windows is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Thanks,

Jonathan Cohn

I am having problems with FX 60.2 or what ever the latest version is. I have the portable version and it keeps refreshing the page and goes silent. I have no problems with FX 52.x es R.

Are you saying you tested it on a Windows 7 machine?  and is it the 64 bit Firefox or the 32 bit Firefox?  A lot of people are using Quantum 64 bit firefox on Windows without these crashes.
