Re: Special characters using NVDA
Ervin, Glenn
Another alternative is to use Jaws to paste the ones you want into an eMail message or a text file and save the file for later for copying and pasting. Glenn

Hi Lino,
I'm not familiar with the Jaws special character entry, but there are several ways of entering alternate characters.
For learning Spanish, I would perhaps be inclined to install the Spanish language in Windows, including keyboard. Then using WINDOWS+SPACEBAR you can change keyboard layout between languages.
Windows character map also works. The symbol entry dialog in Word doesn't work overly well, but once you have entered symbols with it, to reuse them again is much easier.

Quentin.

I do not know of any lists but if you have a newsreader, as in usenet, I'm sure I've seen some of those still active, but they tend to be general.

All I know is that modern Icom radios like the 7300 being touch screen, need something called a hambox or similar made in the US that adds buttons etc for the inaccessible touch controls. Re: NVDA and FireFox Update
Davy Cuppens
Hi folks
I will tell you what the update is about. A gang of legal belgian hackers found a leak in firefox so that mallicious stuff or people can get access to your e-mail accounts on your pc. They reported the issue to Mozilla which immediately has brought out a patch to close the leak. Regards Davy -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- From: David Russell Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2018 11:17 PM To: nvda Subject: [nvda] NVDA and FireFox Update Hello Group Mem bers, I believe I received a legitamate Firefox update today and did a full virus scan via MS Security Essentials to ensure things as much as possible. Yet I am suspicious but made changes in my options settings so updates would be by choice rather than automatic. How do I go about getting back full NVDA function so when I backspace I hear the letters I am spacing over? Some of the punctuation keys like , - . do not speak when pressed. Although sort of accessible it can sometimes need you to use screen nav, superantispyware has found quite a few nasty things that msse has missed recently.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Its free, but does keep pestering you to register and honestly until they fix the access issues its probably not going to happen but underneath that its a good product to run manually from time to time. Others may also have their favourites. I'm not quite sure how a Firefox update can change nvda options though, so wonder what else might be going on here. Brian bglists@... Sent via blueyonder. OT: mailing list for accessibility and HAM radio equipment?
Dan Beaver
Hi, sorry for the off topic post but I need to find out some info and can't seem to find this looking for myself.
Is there a mailing list for accessibility and HAM radio equipment? I found a small amount of info just searching for accessibility and HAM equipment but it just doesn't seem very detailed or useful for that matter.
Just a pointer to any lists would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

single key command for paragraph by paragraph navigation
Akshaya Choudhary
Hi guys! I do a a lot of text reviewing and often I prefer to read paragraph by paragraph. Currently, we need to use Ctrl with up or down arrow keys to do the same. Can you guys suggest me a way to assign a single key for this task? or is there an add-on for the same? It would be very convenient to replace a double key combo with just a single key command, like it is there in JAWS.

NVDA and FireFox Issues Follow-up
David Russell
Hello Members,
I just read through the recent digest with exchanges between Gene and Shaun. The reply by Shaun best describes what occurred. I was at dictionary.com and had just sent in an email request to subscribe. Moments later, I heard a beep tone and was informed FireFox was updating. It took a few moments. I then had the option to change search engines, or do not change search engines, and I chose do not change. I was somewhat in surprise at all this occurring. I googled something about updates and learned that malicious updates are on the rise as Gene indicated. Scrolling through the program menu, my browser was now identified as just FireFox not Mozilla FireFox. Settings were changed. Keyboard functions such as backspace, hyphen, period, comma, were not read when pressed. My auto-signature was not read when in email. I had to forward tab once when going to a website to access the link wanted. Shall I say more? I later changed the update criteria in advance settings after restoring my computer to an earlier time. Now, updates are told to me when they want to occur and I either say yes or ask me later. I cannot ascertain for certain if this is Mozilla or a hack. Nonetheless, It appears Mozilla as known, is returned. It's supposed update occurred in November 2017. No background service is doing any installations for me under the current criteria. I'll be darn careful and use my MS Security Essentials regularly. -- David Russell david.sonofhashem@... "chilah phanim" Make G-d

NVDA and FireFox Issues Partially Resolved
David Russell
Hello NVDA Group,
With the aid of my wife, we did a system restore, and I set the updates in FireFox advance settings to off and be asked when they want to be installed. The first occurrence of this update, or whatever it is, occurred mid morning, September 5, and all I heard was a beep tone and info that FireFox was updating. Of course, unbeknownst to me, my settings were then different. I was at dictionary.com trying to sign up for their daily email. I have three versions of NVDA on my Windows 7 computer. When I activate the check for updates function as someone advised here recently, it does not work. I either have Firefox 60 or 62, not sure. This update is said to be critical and I said, Ask later. It throws too much off in terms of basic keyboard functions if accepted. Backspacing goes silent, auto-signature cannot be read, etc. I don't need the hassle. Thanks. -- David Russell david.sonofhashem@...
