Re: OE Classic 28 ads even more accessibility

I have no idea if it has identities but version 28 has not hit the free version yet. My guess is that when 29 hits the pro version 28 will be free. I think its like $30? Anyway, I looked in the help files but could not find anything about identities. I would have a poke around on their FAQ and news blog. Their website is below.

This is an illustration of one reason why people might prefer tutorials to the manual at least until they get to a moderate or advanced stage of learning.  Here is a quote from the manual on the object description setting..
Report Object descriptions
Uncheck this checkbox if you don't wish to have the description reported along with objects.

Very informative.  I could have figured that out from the name of the item in the dialog, report object description.  Couldn't one example of a description have been given?

If ssuch a setting is anywhere, it should be in object presentation settings.  The question is about menu items and list items, not about lists in documents such as in a browser.

Also, I don't know how what you hear varies from version of Windows to version of Windows.  I don't hear such information in XP or Windows 7 and my settings are the default ones.  Maybe in Windows 10, changing something like report object descriptions might stop this information from being spoken, but I'd have to look up what this setting does to know if it would help.

Hi Chris,

No problem at all re asking the question - if you don't ask, you'll never know :)

Many people use NVDA in different ways, and different people need different information read out.  In NVDA's Document formatting dialog - press NVDA+control+d to open it (or press NVDA+n for the NVDA menu, then choose "Preferences" then "Document formatting"), you can select which elements and information get read out, including list information.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I hope this makes sense and hope it's not too trivial.

Hello,

welcome in our community.

To stop reporting menu item, list item and so on, you can also try to use this addon, Audiotheme. You can assign your own sounds or you can just delete them and put mute sounds in there to avoid NVDA speaking the elements you don't Need to be reported.

You can download it here:

A little suggestion: you can use Skype for mobile phone which is accessible.

I still have Skype classic on PC, but Microsoft  should be more careful  about accessibility for sure.

Hi.

Yeah we can no longer get skype classic anymore people have put it out on dropbox, technically you can still get it if you have a tablet but still.

Someone needs to tell microsoft that skype 8 is not really that accessible, and as well as that maybe the classic desktop interface at least some of it should become part of the skype app.

For now, skyprivate seems to have the file.

http://download.skyprivate.com/skype/win/SkypeSetupFull.exe

The article I got from it was updated on the 15th and explains how to get skype going and I found it with skype classic on google search.

I am going to have to backup my skype classic to my dropbox though its a real shame ms is killing skype for its users now.

I still use it off and on if skype is becomming inaccessible, well that will become a problem.

I used it to help family members get a job, if it goes away I will have to say I can no longer help anymore.

I mean that the environment of universal apps is very restrictive on what any program can do when its being used. IE add ons in nvda would only be usable if that add on was also approved for the store.
I can understand that in some very paranoid environments, this is a good thing, but for the rest of us it seems a step too far and I might even say, a situation where you are lulled into thinking your system is impenetrable by naughty people when in fact there is no such environment in existence.

Hi,
I’ll be abandoning Skype when 7 dies as well. I’ve had a mess with 8,
and as far as I’m concerned, it stinks.
It’s a shame though. While I also have a TeamTalk server, and while the
quality is indeed a lot better, TeamTalk is meant, A, for teams, and B,
not for telephony. To use TeamTalk as a substitute for Skype would be a
pain, since someone would first have to contact you by other means to
ask you to come on TT, something which obviously isn’t necessary with
Skype.
Not only that, but perhaps the biggest issue is that Skype was my
primary telephone.
So yeah. Going Skypeless will indeed take a lot of getting used to.
I can’t ever see me going back to Skype. Crashes, accessibility
shortfalls and process hogging are only the primary issues. And there’s
me thinking Skype could never be any slower and broken than it already
was in 7.
Cheers.

I just want to use the latest skype in an accessible way.

Hmmm, there is a thought I wander if I was a skype insider, I wander if

that would change things some.

Well if they would improve skype 8 to be more accessible or improve skype app so that some of the good features of skype 7 are ported over thats all we ask.

Now it does appear that the download links for skype classic have changed, I have found 1 link to get skype classic, but to be honest, its really not skype classic users want, I don't really want skype classic, I just want to use the latest skype in an accessible way.

Antony, I'm sorry that I didn't explain the essence of the question.

I need to debug the JavaScript code of some websites, add breackpoint and
inspect a variables or objects.
I've tried embedded Google Developer Tools in Chrome, Firefox and Internet

But all these tools are not accessible, or poorly  (little) accessible with
all screen readers.
I'm looking for a solution to this problem and ask for help from more

Re: CodeFactory voices constantly malfunctioning

Hi

CodeFactory voices addon has pretty aggressive licensing restrictions and it tends to deactivate often with or without a good reason. The good news is that if you tell them, they often might be able to restore your activations. Try writing them at

support@codefactoryglobal.com

and explain what happened.

I enjoy NVDA better with the CodeFactory voices; otherwise it sounds too

Dear friends, the matter of fact is that I did talk with the team of Skype support and I expressed all of my concerns regarding accessibility and screen reader related things and He told me that Microsoft is not forcing people to use modern Skype as long as they will remove all of our concerns.

Further more He said that we can use Skype classic as long as that version is installed in our machines.

Re: Phasing out of 7

Skype is the way I do business sadly, so when 7 finally goes,

I don't know what I will do.

Its going to have to be that I will have to use long distance calls, no recording, nothing like that.

I may have to invest in one of those sip services.

Skype 7 is not all that accessible but its better than 8 ever is.

When I go oversease or when people do that, skype is how we chat.

I am also on several groups like this one.

But if skype goes just like aim, it will have to be email, for now.

I will probably end up getting an iphone for whats app, everyone in the family uses whats app.

Skype exists on the iphone and android to and I will just have to hope it gets better.

I will stay with 7 till it disapears from the net for as long as I can, but microsoft has just given me another reason to not upgrade to windows 10.

Firstly it was their music service, now its this.

I am sure I can find and continue to use old win7 boxes even if its no longer secure till I die.

Maybe I will go back to xp, I am so cheesed off, ms should be promoting users to 10 with a lot of extras we want.

I am not getting what I want, I don't need to call that much.
