I use Amazon all the time with NVDA 2017.4 and have no real problems.  I experience nothing like what you are describing.  I am using Windows 10, Firefox 58 with standard settings.

I had the same phone experience. They are small and do training that takes them away from the store operation. Leave a phone message and tell them you have been trying to reach them. When you were taken to PayPal, there should have been a link to sign in. I did this months ago but had no problems with PayPal.

Just hit the hotkey of nvda key + shift + d and you will cycle through the ducking options.  Just hit this key combo until you hear no ducking.

Welcome to NVDA 2018: part 9 (add-ons) posted, complete packages for parts 6 and 7 (provisional)

Ladies and gentlemen,

I’m delighted to announce the completion of component-based version of Welcome to NVDA 2018 tutorial set! I’ll explain what I just said in just a moment.

Before I go any further, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for your continued support and encouragement. The last six weeks have been a challenging yet fun period. In the midst of adjusting to new semester schedule (at Cal State Los Angeles), attending speech and debate competitions, going over add-ons and dealing with NVDA translation issues, I always looked forward to today’s milestone. There are a couple things to be done (including minor edits), but for all intents and purposes, you can now use the 2018 edition of my tutorial set as a handy reference and a teaching tool when training new NVDA users.

Today’s milestone means:

  • Component-based tutorial set: as promised last year, each segment are separate mp3 files. As of today, all nine sections in the main tutorial set are done. There might be changes in February once NVDA 2018.1 nears completion (if a message changes (especially in NVDA preferences, edits will be done).
  • Usage: as a free tutorial set, anyone is welcome to use the tutorial however they wish (including possible text transcriptions, converting them into a DAISY book, citing in other tutorials, etc.).

Speaking of sections: the ninth (and for now, final) section of welcome to NVDA 2018 is now available. This section has gone one of the most extensive edits, as it talks about NVDA add-ons. As always, the section (and components) can be found at www.josephsl.net/tutorials.

Also, complete packages for parts 6 and 7 (both concerning NVDA preferences) are now available:

Note that complete packages for parts 8 and 9 aren’t up yet. They will go up along with addenda soon. Once features for NVDA 2018.1 are frozen (early February), a zip file containing complete packages, addenda, and an overall introduction and changelog (part 0) will be posted, marking the end of this project. This also means the 2015 edition will be removed from the website. Stay tuned as I’ll also be making an announcement regarding this tutorial set and others.

Now for the fun part:

Changelog for part 9 (NVDA add-ons) from 2015:

  • Completely redone.
  • In add-ons manager segment, added steps on how to enable or disable individual add-ons.
  • Features new and updated add-ons (some prominent, others subtle): GoldWave (updated and used to demonstrate disabling individual add-ons), Systray List (updated), Resource Monitor (updated), DictationBridge (new), Golden Cursor (new), Remote Support (new), Windows 10 App Essentials (new), SentenceNav (new and used during introduction to community add-ons website).
  • GoldWave: the effects of disabling and enabling individual add-ons are demonstrated.
  • SentenceNav: brief demonstration while reading add-ons website content.
  • Systray List: no major changes except for user interface.
  • Resource Monitor: added coverage of system uptime (NVDA+Shift+7) and clarified Windows 10 release announcements for Windows version information (NVDA+Shift+6).
  • Remote Support: basics, including controlling remote computer, muting remote speech, sending clipboard data and add-on options are covered (did not cover remote braille and secure screen considerations due to time constraints).
  • Golden Cursor: covers mouse manipulation via keyboard, mouse arrows, jumping to, saving, and viewing saved mouse positions, changing mouse movement unit, toggling mouse movement restrictions, add-on options.
  • DictationBridge: basic dictation, clicking controls, key presses, installing NVDA commands for Windows Speech Recognition, performing NVDA commands via voice.
  • Windows 10 App Essentials: updating add-on, emoji panel, Skype universal app.
  • Final remarks: links to NVDA users list, GitHub, and NV Access websites are provided, along with information on NVDACon.
  • It will take almost two hours to traverse all segments.

Last minute changes on other sections:

  • Part 1 (introduction) has seen file renames to better reflect file content.
  • Tutorial version is now 2018.1 with 2017.4 features included.
  • Introduction for part 6 (NVDA Preferences I) has been updated to say that first half of preferences will cover touch interaction.

Overall tutorial set statistics:

  • Total duration: slightly more than 13 hours (minus upcoming addenda).
  • Average duration per section: almost 90 minutes.
  • Average segment duration: 7 minutes.
  • Shortest section: part 1 (Introduction).
  • Longest section: part 4 (NVDA and the web).
  • Longest thematic section: NVDA preferences (parts 6 and 7, which combined runs for over three hours).

Up next:

  • Complete packages for parts 8 and 9 will be published, with part 9 divided into two parts. These will go up next week.
  • Addenda: two addendum recordings are planned and will go up soon.
  • The “real” complete package (a zip file) along with part 0 (changelog) will be published once NVDA 2018.1 feature set is frozen in February (for resident translators, this means shortly after start of translatable string freeze).
  • The 2015 edition of Welcome to NVDA will be removed.

Thank you and enjoy the tutorial set.

Cheers,

Joseph

Open up the synth chooser dialog with NVDA plus control plus S. Once you have the dialog opened up you can tab to the ducking options and turn it off.

If people want to use the accessible site, that's fine but they should not be shunted to it without trying to solve the original problem.  The access site has limitations the main site, you know, the site that's supposed to be for everyone?, doesn't have.

Try the following things:
On the button, try both space bar and enter.  If neither works, turn off the virtual pc cursor or browse mode, depending on which screen-reader you are using and try space bar and enter again.  If that doesn't work, turn browse mode or the virtual pc cursor back on and try routing the moust to your current location, then left clicking.  If none of those things work, tell us what browser you are using.

Re: displaying file information in folders

I find the "apply to all folders" checkbox works with variable success. There is a shortcut keystroke in Win10 to switch between folder views and I use this to apply it to a folder that I go into and find not laid out how I like it:

I like list view which can be activated with the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+5 ... detils view is CTRL+SHIFT+6. All the different layouts and icon sizes can be activated with the CTRL+Shift+number  combination and there's a list of them here https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-switch-between-views-in-file-explorer-with-keyboard-shortcuts/

Hope that's helpful :)

Yes, it reads or report the progress bar status but the name of the file you've been dll is not announced. that is the bug that need to be fix. Not unless in the earlier version you have at least a guide to know about what file you are downloading.

Same with me!

I am using NVDA latest master development snapshot,

And it works really well with Firefox 58. I am accessing so many programs, apps, and browsers with NVDA verses JAWS. JAWS is getting way behind. NVDA works much better in Edge, for example. I really want to show my gratitude for all you do.

I just tried the News app with JAWS 2018 and NVDA, and NVDA works much better. I am using NVDA more and more to do just what I want to do.

Also, NVDA lets me know, in the mail app, as I type, when I made a spelling mistake. I can just press Shift+F10 to correct it.

That is beautiful.

Respected friends, as you are well aware that Mozilla has updated its browser FF58 on January 23rd 2018 as it promised!

I’m very much delighted to let you know that NVDA is well a head of all screen reader regarding the use of FF58.

The matter of fact is that I have JAWS 18.4530, JAWS 2018.1712.54, narrator and NVDA 2017.4.

I have tested FF58 with all of them and I found out that Fire Fox 58 is working the best with NVDA 2017.4.

I really couldn’t understand that even then Freedomscientific/VFO is charging hundreds and thousands of US Dollars from visually challenged people  and from different agencies which are helping visually challenged people, why they haven’t come up with JAWS update before releasing of Fire Fox 58!

This fundamental question is enough to convince those people and agencies which are giving hundreds and thousands of Dollars to Freedomscientific/VFo, should donate a hand some amount of money to NVAccess as well so it can work for the betterment of visually challenged people better than before!

In short all I can say is “East and west, NVDA is the best”

The ESR version doesn't update to a regular version of the program. The point of the ESR is to provide security updates and leave the actual program the same for a year. Hence the description, extended release. It will upgraqde to the next enxtended realease version whn it becomes available.

If you are behind, running an old version, it is common to have to update to an intermediate version, then you immediately update again. You will then have the current version.

You will probably find that as the esr came out after yours even though it
has an earlier number they have stopped it from updating to58. I had a
similar issue from 54 to 57. Personally I'd try to go back to 52 and allow
it to update the ESR to the latest fixes. I find this version works great
and none of the drawbacks you get in the new Quantum interface system.
I'm sure they will fix it, but although 58 is actually working mostly,
those who read hear will know the problems I still have with its design and
usability. If none of this matters simply download the latest 58 version and
see what you think. Apart from having to reinstall add ons if you go back
nothing else gets lost.

AT Guys is not accessible, the first time I tried to check out the site drove me around in circles.  The second time I could not find paypal, I found out it was money order.  I chose that and paypal prompted me to create an account.  I already have an account.  AT Guys sucks!

Hi,

I bought a copy of CF through this online shop using Paypal
http://www.atguys.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20&products_id=231

They will send license key to our email after payment verification.

Best Regards

Anyone know if it can be bought using paypal, after I installed it then pressed buy all it displays is visa or master card.  When I contacted code factory they said they accept paypal so just select paypal in the payment option.  I don’t see an option to use paypal unless it’s somewhere else!

Hello,

Thanks Gene for your answer to my unasked question, which would have
been how do you use sites with captchas (personally I think they are a
bad idea), and your solution will work for me and a friend of mine.

Thanks.
Dave.

It's your privilege to boycott such sites and to not use Webvism. Why are
you cutting off your nose to spite your face? Of course this system of spam
elimination has been cracked. it's been cracked since Webvism came out.
That doesn't make Webvism useless. Webvism can be used if you use a
portable version of Firefox, 52 or lower, and these days, 52 ESR would be
the one to use because it's still secure and works with the plugin, and the
regular version of Firefox if you want to use the regular one during this
time, for other browsing. You could use the ESR version for everything if
you want. You would use the portable version for sites you need Webvism for
and the other version otherwise. I very seldom use sites that have
captchas. But I'm not going to throw away a perfectly good tool for no
reason.

Yes I gave up on it and now boycott clueless sites that still pretend its of

any use for security, since it seems many of those sites still get spammers

somebody somewhere has cracked it quite obviously.

HI.

Am I correct in thinking Webvism will be completely useless with Firefox 58?

Not that I'm getting much use of it right now with FF 52 ESR. In fact, it
doesn't appear to really do anything, least of all solve capshas. :)

About my name is blank, because maybe that is Chinese.
anyway, letter's end always has my English name too.

Incidentally, your name seems to be blank on messages to this list. Could be a character set thing.
As for typing. Can you not just use one of the normal phrases and see how much  of a mess you make. I learned to touch type late in life and am always messing up, particularly on  laptop keyboards.
You know.

Thanks
But this looks like too professional
I just need a software to practice basic typing
Because most of the software like this use a flash like interface or
technology
Making the use of guide software can not be successfully accessible
If anyone can use it, then I can test it without having to download
it one by one
Without software, I think web pages are acceptable
 Thanks for your recommendation

thank you for much

I looked through browser results, but found either templates, word
processors, or typing tutors. If you are looking to improve your
typing speed in English, you would want a typing tutor and there are
many. Likewise, there are many word processors that offer templates
for writing different types of documents.

If, however, you are looking for a software program that teaches the
basic formats for different types of letters that you would write to
other people, I think that has gone the way of the 1980’s. There are
websites, seminars and classes, but not much in software packages. I
only found one.

Merrit Software offers this one:

This is not an endorsement, just information on what I found.

Hi all,

Is there any software can be used to practice playing English letters

It is better to use software than web pages

Then nvda can be accessible

Thanks for the offer
